I realize that the MM3 version is not supported but I'm still putting this question out there. After a bit of trial and error, I successfully synced a subset of my library to iTunes. Prior to the sync, I deleted everything from the iTunes library. After sync, the root Music tab in iTunes indicates 130GB of music, which sounds right, but many (~50%) of individual tracks have the unavailable exclamation icon next to them, and pop the following message when I attempt to play them: "The song "X" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Weirdly, though, if I check all the playlists I also synced, every one seems to include only working files. Any idea where the discrepancy could come from? In syncing my iPod, I can see that iTunes sees 5600 files as available, out of a supposed total of 13107 synced to the library. Looking at the cache directly, I can confirm that the tracks missing in iTunes are also missing from the cache folder.

The MM3 version had some limitations with iTunes with many tracks. The larger libraries seem to take longer to update and internal locks cause certain updates to fail (after each initial track). The MM4 version retries upon failure and is consequently more robust.

I've added this to the FAQ list http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... Plugin_FAQ. It almost certainly is to do with iTunes not being accessible from MM. Did you try a reboot before installing the new iTunes?

So my hard drive is failing and I'm about to move to a new SSD. All my music is stored on an external but MM and iTunes are installed on the drive I'm about to replace. What files/folders do I need to consider backing up so I don't have to resync all 15,000 tracks again? Thanks :)

Ah, thanks. I need to weigh the pain of upgrading to MM4 vs not having Genius on my iPod, then

You need to backup the MM and iTunes DB folders plus the monkey.ini file. You also need to backup the MMiTunes cache folder if it's not on the external drive.
When you rebuild your machine make sure that you give it the same name as before.
Upon re-installation you should ensure that the configuration settings for the plugin are identical (these are stored in the registry).

Hi,
I am running Itunes 10.6 and the latest MM Itunes Plugin. When I right click on a playlist and send to the itunes plugin device, it copies to the cache folder but then 2 copies of each song shows up in Itunes. Any idea why?

No, not without more information. Can I have a view of your device configuration settings?
The only time that I've known duplications has been when the Cache Path is set to the "Automatically Add to iTunes".

I've improved some wording in the manual to point this out more clearly.
Cache path
A location that the synchronised files will be copied to. This is similar to the iTunes media library but can be positioned to your needs and has a more consistent naming convention which minimizes duplications.
The default location is <My Documents>\MMiTunes.
Do not be tempted to use the <MyDocuments>\Music\iTunes folder or anywhere below this point (especially not “Automatically Add to iTunes”). This is a special folder that cannot be written to or will have strange side effects.
The folder must be fully writeable by your user account.
As the cache content can be quite large it is quite common to be assigned onto a drive letter other than the default.
Windows has a maximum path length restriction which can affect the access of files with long names. Assigning the root folder (say, c:\MMiTunes) to a shorter path can help this.
If you have a large media collection or do not wish to use the cache for other reasons see the “Explanation of the Cache” Section.

I think that is the problem. I changed path to "C:\Users\davew\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Automatically Add to iTunes".

I am new to Itunes since before 10.6 and IOS 5 I only used Media Monkey.

How do you get Itune to import using the default location C:\Users\davew\Music\MMiTunes?

lol. That is exactly what this plugin does. I suggest that you have a read of the FAQ and the manual.

Hi there,

I am using MM latest version with iTunes latest version.
I have a decent size library 20,000 songs ish. During sync, after usually 2000 to 4000 songs, both applications stop responding.

I need to kill them, start again, and then it carries on from where it left it. kind of painful, as i cannot leave it unattended.

is it a known issue? due to plugin/itunes/MM??

thanks a bunch, plugin is perfect for what i need apart from this little flaw.. (by the way, i do not cache as i want itunes and media monkey to work on the same files)

Hi all

I am starting to work with this solution.

The first thing I have come about is a message in iTunes, while syncing, that says "The iTunes library could not be saved. You don't have enough privileges......etc"

Has anybody gotten this message also? Any suggestion on what it means and what is the impact?

thanks!
