Playing from DLNA server

Postby Random Bozo » Sat Mar 10, 2012 5:20 am

I have a media library of songs in AAC format that stream from a Twonky server running on my WiFi router. These songs stream/play happily via WiFi on the media adaptor attached to my HiFi, Android phones, Galaxy pad, and laptops (Windows OS and Media Player). I just installed MM 4.0.3.1476 on a laptop. First basic test is to see if MM can see and play from Twonky server.

Twonky server shows fine in MM and Media Tree shows complete library in a variety of views. Fine.

However, if I try to play a song(s) or a playlist, MM simply highlights song after song down the list, skipping each without actually playing the song.

If I right-click and select Download then MM downloads the file(s) correctly to the local machine and then they play fine in MM. So no network errors, paths are correct, files are accessible, encoding fine, etc.

One odd thing, a bug, I do notice. When songs are viewed from the Twonky server in the MM centre pane, or right-click Properties, from an Artist/Album view of the Media Tree then Genre is shown as Unknown for all songs. However, when the same song/file is downloaded to the local PC then the Genre is read correctly. Also, when the songs are organised in the Media Tree by one of the Genre views then the Genre is shown correctly.

I had a very similar thing and it ended up being the trial codec pack had expired. It seems that the codec used to play aac locally and to stream over DLNA are different and the streaming one needs purchasing or the trial pack re-installing. Using Trial Pack 2.0.0.14.

Thanks

I would assume that only if conversion is used would the host (MediaMonkey Media Server PC) require any codecs. Otherwise only the client would need codecs to play the file.
