Share Tree/Col Settings not propogating

Postby MacQ » Sat Apr 14, 2012 9:42 am

Long time MM user but just upgraded to MM4.

I'm having trouble with the Share Tree & Column Settings feature in Collection Options.

I setup 4 collections without problem. I set my columns and column sequence on my main collection (ALL) just fine. When I added the other 3 collections they inherited the settings from my ALL collection - fair enough.

But, I then changed the sequence of a few columns in my ALL collection and tried to Share it to the other 3. Nothing happened.

How should this work? I couldn't find much doc for this.

Thanks

It also seems that it is not possible to break the sharing. After sharing from another node everything works. But opening the dialog again tells me for sharing "none", although it is still shared. If I want to break the sharing (the only method I found was to share the collection onto itself) this seems to work in the first moment. But at latest after quitting and restarting MM the link is still there again.

I personally am not happy at all with the current solution. It seems an easy and fast solution at first, but it is not easy to maintain and handle in the long run, as it is hard to see and remember which collection shares from which.

Maybe it would be better to solve this with presets. Lets save a layout for tree nodes and assign it to different collections. Also a preset for columns. Making these two separate presets gives more flexibility. At least I would like to have the columns in most collections the same, but not the tree nodes.

By the way, I really would appreciate also a preset for sorting, which then can also be applied to one or more collections.
