Lost Playlist

Postby nijinski99 » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:19 pm

Hello

I have spent some time compiling many playlists in MM & recently had occasion to format a hard drive & reinstall MM.

I've got all my songs back but cant see to find the original playlists - there is a list of playlists there which i didn't create.

How do i get my original playlist back ? its in a m3u file i think?

Any help appreciated.

Playlists that you create in MM are not saved as individual files, but maintained in the MediaMonkey database file. If you did not save that file (MM.DB) then your playlists are lost.

hello, & thanks for the help

I searched for mm.db & found a few on my system. i renamed all & moved to mm folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\MediaMonkey
I then renamed to mm.db (one by one) & found they were all old playlists configurations, in media monkey.
it would seem that my latest .db is somehow not being found or was not made or was deleted. I don't believe it was deleted....
anyway thanks for the help & any other suggestions appreciated.

Hi

just a follow on to the above. i'm trying to understand!
I located 6 MM.db files on my system & tried to find my missing one.
My understanding is that the playlists are stored in the db file & the tracks are in the ' music folder on my system.

So, when i load a .db file a expect to get a different playlists showing for each one, which is the case. However I search each time i load a .db file for the most recent track i am aware of. 8 Nirvana tracks in this case. i would expect to see these 8 new tracks plus 1 older one. but this is not the case. only one loaded .db shows all nirvana tracks, but the playlist is not my lost one.

Is the .db also controlling the library or am i missing something.

Any help appreciated

Yes, the database has all playlists as well as all track information. Thus if you load an old database you won't get newly added files.

You could use: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42085&hilit=playhistory to try to merge databases into one. Or you could export Playlists (Tools > Scripts > Export all Playlists) from the old databases and then scan them into the latest database you're using (File > Add/Rescan Files with the M3U File Type enabled).

thanks

i went with your second option as i couldnt download the add-on.

(File > Add/Rescan Files with the M3U File Type enabled).
When i try to navigate to add/rescan from C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\MediaMonkey,I was unable to get there from Application Data (not seen). Checked in windows explorer & the above path is correct. do i need to enable something?

any help appreciated.

No, File > Add/Rescan Files is a menu option in MediaMonkey's Main Menu.

Sorry, perhaps i didn't explain very well.

I've gone File > Add/Rescan Files (menu option in MediaMonkey's Main Menu) but i'm unable to navigate to the .db files i want to scan. The path (which is available in windows explorer) is just not available through MM.

I'm wondering if i needed to enable something?

I'm not sure why you see that, but you can type the path in the bottom part of the Add/Rescan Files dialog and Add it to have it scanned. Does that work for you?

good idea. i should have spotted that!

tried it. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\MediaMonkey

added it & deselected the rest. selected all file types. hit ok - no scan

Still puzzled!

Might that be a hidden folder? Hidden folders are ignored.

Are you sure? Application Data is a hidden folder by default as it is not meant to store user files (like music).
