Album Art, .alb files and Track Order

Postby merobreno » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:47 pm

The Conundrum:

My library is ripped to lossless WMA. Acquired new Android phone and synced with WMP. This requires a down conversion as Android player supports WMA but, not lossless (this has been the case for several portable media players). I get the audio, I get the album tracks in order but, I get no album art. Enter MediaMonkey.

Have played with Basic MM for different apps over the years and find it utilitarian and usefull but not user freindly for less techie types (ie freinds and spouse). None the less, tried sync with MM for new device but, of course, basic does not down convert. Paid for Gold. Get audio (now down converted to 128k) and album art but album track are alphabetical, not album track number order.

Go into trouble shooting mode and make the following correlation. WMP creates a Dir named Album on the phone drive which contains .alb files. MM does not. .alb files seem to be the key to album tracks in correct order. MM has a config device that allows album art tag to file allowing album art to follow sync. WMP has no such config.

Google search, MM forums, Help all no help. Out $50 bucks and still have the choice of sync with album art and alphabetic listings or correct album track order and no album art.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Some Google searches on .alb and MM and album art mention the creation of .alb files. So, why am I not seeing this with 4.0.xx MM?

Lowlander. It's an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2. The model is SGH-I777. Android V. 2.3.6.

Also, to elaborate on my previous post, I am getting .alb file created by MM in the Music folder along with the folder.jpg which is of course the album art. Howerver, this does not seem to carry the track number (correct album order) info and moving it to the Album folder does not correct the problem.

If I sync with WMP and create the .alb file in the Album folder then delete the files from the Music folder and re-sync with MM I get the desired result: album art and correct album track order. Hardly a desirable work around.

One more thing. Reading though the online docs for MM here:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... tracks.htm

I read:
2.3. Try enabling 'Save all Album Art to track tags' OR 'Save all Album Art to track folders', if Album Art doesn't sync correctly.

I have the former but not the later switch availible. There is no 'Save all Album Art to track folders' choice. If it matters.

Thanks for asking. I hope you can help. Please let me know if you need more info.

Backspace. Forget everything you think I'm confused by. Ignore all previous ramblings. The problem is track number.

"Sync music files to:" setting is: \Music\<Album Artist> - <Album>\<Track#:2> <Title>

Veiwed in file manager looks like : \Music\10,000 Maniacs-Blind's Mans Zoo\01 Eat For Two.wma

But, music player(s) are not regestering the 01 part. WTFO.

Tried stock player (what ever that is((no track number))) and WinAmp (it thinks all track are the same number ((ie 28 or 30)) so falls bak on alphabetical) and finally Powermp. Same same. Tracks not in order.

Someone, please save my phone cause I'm goi'nt shoot it.

Solved. PowerAmp.

Found a switch in PowerAmp list settings which sorts by track number. Could not find in stock player or WinAmp.
