Hard time "finding" classical pieces after importing

Postby JohnN » Thu Jun 28, 2012 1:14 pm

I searched the forum to see if any other newbies have had similar troubles but couldn't find a solid match. After adding classical mp3's to a folder (composer's name), I use "Add/Rescan Folders" and choose the folder with the music. The confirmation says it added "N" files but then I can't find the file unless I use the "Search" feature. After finding it, I go through MM's "Properties" and update the tags (including genre) and save that. But the piece still does not turn up under "Classical" or "Music" for the composer (or artist). Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!

They're most likely in the Classical Music Collection instead of the Music Collection you're probably using.

Thanks, Lowlander! I have looked there as well but still "no show." For example, I add Bach's "Air Overture 3" and then "Search" for it. When I find it, I modify the Properties to make sure that composer, genre, and other tags are correct and save the changes. But it doesn't show up in either the general or the Classical collection. Very puzzling. Perhaps I am missing something very basic.
Thanks again!

It should show in the Classical Music Collection and definitely in the Entire Library Collection (enable under File > Manage Collections). Are you sure you selected the Classical Music node in the Media Tree?

(Thanks for the help!) If you have time, at this link, I screen captured all the Bach in Classical...

At this link, I had to search the general folder (despite the genre being Classical) to find Air on G String, which I just added...

The second screenshot doesn't show the Composer field and it's value would determine where you'd find the track in the Classical Music > Composer node you show in the first screenshot. However the track should show under Classical Music > Artist & Album Artist > The Berliner Philharmonic...

:( No Berlin listed in Artist/Album (I'm really scratching my head!)

Check the Type field in the file Properties it may not be set to Classical Music.

SCORE! (this answers the same question for several other classical "mysteries")

Rules for defining Type: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _Rules/4.0

Note that Type is only set on first scan into MediaMonkey, changing Genre afterwards won't auto-change Type.
