All music grayed out!

Post by kyinaire »

iTunes 10.6.3.25
MM 4.0.5.1496
Windows 7 Ultimate

Image

When I try to sync (MM 4, iTunes 10 - both most recent versions) I get a grayed out music area. I think that nothing is syncing, as opposed to a communication error, since the "To Sync" area consistently reads 0 B. However, the playlists are NOT grayed out, but still nothing shows up in iTunes.

During the actual sync process, the iTunes icon on the bottom randomly flashes orange. All I see in MM's status bar is something like "preparing list of files." I never see the names of the actual files being transferred with the progress bar and all.

Error message (via MM 4 debug):

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

@kyinaire

I'm pretty sure that this isn't a plugin issue. The "greying out" symptom is a result of your music not being accessible to MM.

Im running MM 4.6.0.1501 portable with the plugin V 4.0.4.2438 and encount for 10 days now a severe problem with the plugin. Suddenly I cannot sync anymore because either:
1) plugin starts running but stops with the "EXCEPTION DEVICE_ListContent EAccessViolation Access violation at address 0B511A00 in module 'd_itunes4.dll'. Read of address 2A000004" message. In DebugView I can see that it reads the playlists, these are the last lines before the sync stops:
[3768] d_itunes4.dll 2438 00:19:27 DEVICE_CanPlay start \Music\Francisco Canaro - (1927) [CTA-7
[3768] d_itunes4.dll 2438 00:19:27 DEVICE_GetFlag start 4 85385392

[3768] d_itunes4.dll 2438 00:19:27 getItunesSource not found

Then after clicking away the Access-info in MM:

[3768] d_itunes4.dll 2438 00:22:51 ItunesSyncFullEnd done ****************************** 85385392
[3768] d_itunes4.dll 2438 00:22:51 DEVICE_GetFlag end 9=0

exception log then shows "d_itunes4.dll 2438 23:56:24 EXCEPTION Log cleared

2) In most of the cases directly after clicking the blue round arrow, MM crashes without message. The sync stops suddenly, depending on the time (I even can force the crash by staying with the mouse on the blue arrow! ). Debug then ends for example with these lines:

When I click on the sync button in MediaMonkey my selected Playlists are copied into iTunes however the synchronisation of my iPhone is not triggered automatically. I just did a clean windows installation and if I recall correctly MediaMonkey used to trigger the iPhone synchronisation without me having to click on "sync" in iTunes manually.

How can I fix this? thanks!

On the Device configuration page there are drop downs to trigger a named iPhone device. These settings are in the registry so will have been set to default during your clean build.

I have looked through the thread and doe some searches, so forgive me if this is a duplicate question. The thread is getting a little long to navigate. :)

My problem is that if I uncheck a large playlist to sync to iTunes and then sync MM iTunes asks to confirm deletion of EACH song. I recently had to confirm >1000 songs individually (two clicks each to remove from iCloud). Is there any way to automate this process?

Thanks. I really love the plugin otherwise.

I don't do this check within the plugin - this is actually within the generic part of the drivers that MM incorporates. On the "Auto sync" tab there is a "Confirm Deletion" check that I guess you've got switched on. I have this switched off; with an automated system like this it doesn't make sense to have it switched on.

You are right. I DID have the confirm delete checked. I unchecked it, but, unfortunately, it did not solve my problem. It does not seem to be an MM thing--it is on the iTunes side, but I don't know how to turn it off.

In general, the plug-in is working well, and I am getting the tracks i expect showing up in iTunes, as well as the playlists.

But some of the meta data is not getting updated from the first time I ran it. See attached.

I recently created a new playlist in MM and updated the GROUPING field.
-the SONGBOOK playlist now appears in ITunes
-the tracks within the SONGBOOK playlist now appear in ITunes
-BUT the content of the GROUPING field still has old values.

Is there anything I can do to address this ???

Hi, Im having trouble getting the plugin to work.
I installed the .dll file and then when I press to sync, MM just says 'Preparing list of files' at the bottom. This remains like this for a minute or so, and whilst it happens itunes flashes orange (ie it looks as though it is trying to load something)
However, eventually this comes up;
Image
This same message comes up everytime I try.
So I look at the file it suggests and it says;
d_itunes4.dll 2438 14:41:28 EXCEPTION Log cleared
d_itunes4.dll 2438 14:41:58 EXCEPTION AppViaCOM (CoiTunesApp.Create) EOleSysError Server execution failed, ClassID: {DC0C2640-1415-4644-875C-6F4D769839BA}

I have no idea what this means in regard to the access violation? I've reinstalled the plugin and itunes and the same thing comes up.
Also, I've looked through most the questions and I dont think one like this has been discussed. No files have been added to my Itunes. And I don't have an MMItunes folder, which I assume it is meant to make.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Karl

@MediaMan:

You're the first person ever to mention "Grouping" to me. Simple answer is that the plugin doesn't support it. The initial value will be present as MM will save it to the file and iTunes will read it off the file. After that the sync is via a bespoke "spot the change and update it" piece of code and grouping isn't on the list of attributes which are checked.

A work around would be to manually delete the track in iTunes and let it resync afresh. You'd have to manually identify which tracks need to be updated though.

Unfortunately I have no plans to update in the near future either. Maybe later in the year when I have more time.

Sorry,
Mark

@KarlG91: It is because MM cannot communicate with iTunes. The reason isn't readily evident. Can you post your versions of Windows, MM, iTunes etc?

Sorry, new user here! Was hoping this add-on would allow be to auto-generate nested playlists in itunes (classical music, so looking to get era > composer > piece > artist > tracks heirarchy). Using the 'Export M3Us/Playlists for Child Nodes 3.6' in MM 4.0.6.1501 I've generated a tree of playlists, but when I used_itunes4.dll to export them into itunes 10.6.3.25 I'm getting the following error:

d_itunes4.dll 2438 EXCEPTION createPlatlistInFolder EOleException The parameter is incorrect
d_itunes4.dll 2438 EXCEPTION DEVICE_notifyPlaylist EaccessViolation Access violation at address 087010Dc in module 'd_itunes4.dll'. Read of address 00000000

In the device configurations tab of the options, I've got the Playlist folders line set to: 'Build folders', '-', 'tick', '' I'm also not using the cache as the music collection is rather large, and all I'm wanting is the playlist structures created in itunes as a one-off process.

I've tried other settings of the separator to no avail. It manages to transfer one un-nested playlist in its entirety. It then (well not sure of exact order - this may happen first:) moves on to a playlist that has a sub-playlist which has two tracks - it creates the parent list, but ignores the sublist and puts the two tracks directly in (what was in MM) the parent. I'd really like the folder structure to be preserved, so a previous report of this on the message board which the user fixed by using the 'Ignore folders' option isn't ideal.

I have various characters in the MM playlist names (colons, commas, quotes, apostrophes) which I'd like to keep, but even a test set where I've cleansed the names to alphanumeric names still gives the same error.
Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks.

Well thanks for clarifying that point. I need look no further! I guess when I saw it sync the the first time, I assumed it would sync the second time ( after all, thats what syncing it all about). Manual updates would not work for me - too many changes .

QUESTION - Can you confrim which attirbutes ARE synced? Ie are Album?, Artist?, Album Artist?, Name/Title? Composer? Genre ??

COMMENT - Depite its few limitations,, the plugin is a life saver! I never again want MM to touch my ipad again ( too many prior disasters). Updatiing the ipad via ITunes is a much better safer solution, hands down.

REQUEST - On the next update, just a suggestion to tweak the wording on the Delete window . When I did my last sync, It asked me to confirm if I wanted to "Delete 5100 of 7403 tracks? " ...and I was looking at 7403 tracks in MM. I had my options set correctly ( to delete on the deivce only), but it would be more reassuring if the Delete message would have said "Delete 5100 of 7403 tracks on remote device?"

ISSUE - I tried a full delete and refresh (not quite the syncing I had hoped for)..I manuualy delelted all the tracks in Itunes. Doing this should have clearly addressed the Grouping filed issue..but it did not.. must be some sort of caching going on there. In fact Album and Album Artist fileds still had old values. I am now trying deleting not only iTunes but the cache folder on the computer as well .

Something else is also off.

I selected it to auto sync on 9 playlists (818 tracks)

It correctly cretes those playlists in itunes

But it when it does the sync in MM, MM tells me that
-it is syncing 1699 files
-and it puts 1699 files in the cache folder
-1699 files show up in Itunes (the ones I want and another 800 or so that I dont want)
