MM 4.0.6 crashes during synch with ipod touch

Post by pooner16 »

Hello,
I put off purchasing MM until it support OS5, so when I read there was a new version last week, I went ahead and bought Gold.
Unfortunately, everytime I start to synch my library to my Ipod Touch, (5.1.1), MM crashes pretty early on.
I submitted a ticket to support, but their recommendations haven't yet ironed it out, and I guess I'm impatient (as I just bought the Gold version and I'm seeing no return yet).
Things I've tried: Clean installation, upgrading iTunes, restoring ipod Touch to default settings, installing MM on different computer.
The bug report seems to say it's a problem with the iphonecalc.dll module.

Anyone here having a similar problem or have any recommendations?

Thanks

I too am having the same problem and have tried many of the same things you did.

I am a long time MM owner. Can't wait to get my sync back.

Thanks

To fix this:

1. Download the iPhoneCalc.dll from here: http://www.happymonkeying.com/beta/iPhoneCalc.dll
2. Make sure that MediaMonkey is closed
3. Replace your existing iPhoneCalc.dll located in the MediaMonkey install folder by the downloaded one
4. Run MediaMonkey and give a try

The issue is tracked here http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=9530 and already confirmed to be fixed by several users

Although MM no longer crashes during synch using this iphonecalc.dll, it does not seem to complete synchronization of any files. Those that MM thinks it has synched do not appear on the iPod 4, and if the iPod is disconnected and reconnected, MM no longer sees them on the device either.

Please advise.

I have this same issue:

I have an Ipod Touch 3rd generation using IOS 5.1.1. I am trying to sync with the latest MM version. I sync ONLY playlists made in MM. I do not have Itunes installed on this computer, but have the drivers via the "Copy Trans Drivers Installer" a user suggested. I installed Itunes to see if it fixed the problem, but it did not... so I uninstalled it and am using Copy Trans drivers again.

It kind of works, but not really. If I only do a small subset of my playlists it seems to work, but when I do them all (5000 songs) It either
1) Force closes MM before the playlist associations occur. This means the songs are on my Ipod, but MM doesn't realize they are. or
2) If it makes it to the end some songs are synced correctly, but some songs show up grayed out on IPOD. I can't find a pattern.

FYI: pooner16 (+one more user) confirmed via eSupport that the device was in some strange state (beceuse of previous crashes) and that cleaning up the device by using iTunes and syncing one single track using iTunes gets the device to the proper working state again.

I'm also having trouble with MM (4.06.1501) shutting down when syncing my iPod touch (iOS 5.1.1). It happens on the first track, and it doesn't matter how many tracks I've selected to sync.

I've followed the instructions in this thread to install the new iPhoneCalc.dll to no avail. I've synced a single track successfully using iTunes <bleh> and the problem persists. The only thing I haven't tried is "cleaning up the device using iTunes", as I'm not clear exactly what that means. There doesn't seem to be anything in iTunes that I can identify that would perform this kind of operation, unless what is being referred to is to "Restore" the iPod to it's original settings.

You can always create a debug log (step 4b and 4d) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69

PS. Did it ask to replace iPhoneCalc.dll as otherwise you may have put it in the wrong folder.

I'll do that

I renamed the prior version, and copied it here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\iPhoneCalc_Old.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\iPhoneCalc.dll

I would suggest you to rename it to iPhoneCalc.dll.old as that way you will ensure that MM will not accidentally load that file.

I missed that the .dll extension was left.
