Monkey Rok 6.2 - Updated 06/07/2014

I've been away from Monkey Rok for a while. Tonight I tried to install untabbed skins for Noir, Eclipse, GrauGrun, and Vision; none would install. I double clicked on the mmip and I get the message "Blank was not installed". All of them say they are MR version 5.3...shouldn't they install?

Since updating to Monkey Rok 5.8 I have problems with it not showing much information.

After uninstalling MonkeyRok, starting MediaMonkey as administrator, and installing MonkeyRok again with the box unchecked (for all users), and after changing the skins in many ways I get nothing more than this:

The error message in Dutch "Deze eigenschap of methode wordt niet ondersteund door dit object (Runtimefout Microsoft VBScript)" translates as: "This property or method is not supported by this object (Microsoft Vbscript Runtime Error)".

Anybody any idea what I could do about this?

With regards for the panels not displaying, if you open "Scripts\MonkeyRok\Functions.vbs" in a text editor and comment out line 2736...

Call LogMe(" GetAlbumArt("&track&","&albumid&")")

...by adding an apostrophe (') character in front of it, or deleting it completely, then that should resolve the issue. I'll try and have a new version out this week.

Somehow I read right over that.
All this problems had a good side though. At the beginning I thought MonkeyRok was all right, but now I discovered all the possibilities while looking for the problem, I think it is just awesome.

At the moment I am working on a Dutch translation. While working on that I already found that it would be an improvement to move the leading and trailing spaces out of the text file into the code, cause they form a major pita while translating.
A solution could be a more extensive use of the "%"-character, giving more flexibility for the translation as well. In that way the "%"-character could be moved around, supporting a more flexible grammar and thus better translations. Without this flexibility a "no can do"-type of translation emerges, clear but crooked.

• The first two columns are existing language files I use as input.
• In the 3rd column I marked all texts with a leading space with an "x".
• In the 4th column I marked all texts with a trailing space with an "x".
• The 5th column is the translation which I copy into a text file to test it.
• The 6th column is the one I put my translated text in.

Problem with the spaces is that quite some programs automatically discard them, so that they have to be put back in manually, again and again. It would be quite easier for all translators if those spaces were gone.

At first I thought the translation would be a piece of cake, but while working on it I realized that the words need to correspond to the words already used, in the translation for MM itself, and as used in this translation.

There is also the problem of understanding how things should work. The line on 193 "Include current album in albums by panel" seems to be very clear, but so for I haven't found any difference between the box checked or unchecked. I expected for the album being played to show up in the panel "Albums by ...", but it doesn't. Thus the question is: what is it supposed to do?

Another item are the names between "<>", are those free translatable or should those refer to existing names?

Last time I checked that option worked, and does exactly what you say, includes the current album in the "Albums by" panel. I've not tested it recently, but then I've not changed any of that code for several versions.

You can put whatever you want in any of the translations, including the ones with chevrons.

I am using a spreadsheet, which is naturally more of a calculation program than a text editing program. Apart from the spaces it also drops the quotation marks.

What's the word on compatibility with portable mode? (Win7 64bit /IE8.0/MM as Admin)

I am getting:

But when I rebooted into a 32bit test partition with Mediamonkey 4.06 installed on the C drive MR worked well. So, once booted back to normal I copied the IE security settings, registered the xmd5.dll & xzip.dll manually, added the 1201=0 Values for IE to the registry, made sure I was on Gilded skin w/ classic MR skin, checked the Firewall. Deleted line 2736 of Function.vbs... oh, and uninstall/re-installed MR before all of this.

Above is my result.

I use Portable mode for the folder-convenience, but I have no problem with registry entries. So let me know if I need to add some stuff manually. Thanks.

Looks like IE is refusing to run the script from this location, but I'm not sure why. The registry change you've made should allow any page in the My Computer zone to run scripts.

It is on second internal Hard drive at P:\MyData\MediaMonkey\Scripts\Monkeyrok. The app data is in P:\MyData\MediaMonkey\Portable\

I wonder if the second hard drive is an issue? It would be pointless for me to run it on another partition on the first drive but I could try it temporarily for kicks. I will also try fresh install of MM (only tried this with non-portable test install before.)

I wonder if there is a group policy for this (I have Win7 Ultimate.)

I give up

I fresh installed MM in portable mode on my first hard drive, once in C: and once in a different partition (Q:). Neither worked on the 64-bit OS.

I rebooted into the 32-bit test system and opened the same portable installation on the Q: drive. MonkeyRok worked perfectly. I checked my Internet Options, firewall and services. Much more was disabled on the 32bit system in fact than on my current 64-bit system.

Booted back into the 64-bit and went over what I saw in the 32-bit system, reset my internet options for the heck of it, verified all the 1201 entries in the registry were still 0 (there are many more in the 64-bit system) but the same MM installation would not work with MonkeyRok.

I am pretty sure this is some more stupid 64-bitness that makes me sorry I upgraded.

There are worse tragedies. I'll get over it.
