No Android Media Sync? That really sucks.

Post by primem0ver » Fri Mar 13, 2015 10:36 pm

I have been a LONG time user of Winamp and it's being frozen in time (because of the stop in development) has finally made me search for a replacement. I chose Media Monkey because it seemed the best choice at the time. Now I am convinced I made the wrong choice...

MediaMonkey for Windows is great. It works at least as good as winamp did for most features, it even uses my old plugins (with a few annoyances... but oh well) and is in some ways it is better (more up to date). Then I tried the android version and I am thoroughly irritated.

Am I missing something or did the developers choose to ignore Android's media scan that it does EVERY TIME THE OS BOOTS? There is NO SYNC between them. I have an Android phone that I use to play my music in my car over blue tooth and when I exercise. I have nearly 50 GB of music. When I first got the app, it took a HELL of a long time for the media list to load. Apparently it doesn't make use of the Android media database so it has to create its own. This makes sense for Windows but NOT for Android.

That is only the beginning of my problems because of this shortsightedness. I spread my music over separate external SD's that I keep in my wallet. So far I have 2. However, when I take one out and put the new one in, all the music on the OLD SD is still listed but NONE of the music on the new SD. But of course it doesn't play the old music because it is no longer on the current SD. I must go back into the settings and select the folder on the new SD and WAIT another 5 minutes before I can access my music. Can anyone explain this? Is there a setting? Or can someone recommend a different player? I will NOT go through this every time I switch SD's. I will even pay a reasonable amount for an Android player that actually works.

Another issue is that this player does not stop playback when the Bluetooth connection is interrupted (such as when I turn my car off). That was something that Winamp did very nicely.

For what I did understand, MMA is forced to use it's own database because the android one isn't abble to handle tags with multiple values or other things like that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, MMA uses it's own database and MMW to MMA sync directly it updates the database.

Note: although it uses its own database, it syncs that database with the Android Media Store. I expect that that sync operation is what's causing you grief?

Sorry... haven't viewed this in a while. Got busy with other things in life. To answer the last question: Well the fact that it doesn't work is causing me grief (if what you are saying about syncing is even true).
