Android SD card no longer syncing

Post by Nerdy Norm »

I'm having problems syncing my Android phone's SD card via USB. It used to work fine, but now any new tracks which are added to my library do not appear on my phone. There is no error message shown, the sync appears to complete OK, but the new tracks are not copied.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Please provide more details:
1) Is MMW syncing to the SD card directly (not inserted in phone)
2) Is MMA not picking up the new files or are you not seeing the new files on the SD card at all?
3) Which version of MMW and MMA are involved?

I'm using the latest version of Media Monkey (just updated today). Not sure about MMA or MMW.

The SD card is in the phone, and is connected via USB. The new tracks show in the MM library, but don't get copied across to the phone when I sync it.

You should check Phone profile and sync settings that maybe it is not set to sync newest tracks.

Phone and profile should be available/listed in MMW tree apron connection to USB.

Thanks. The boxes "music" and "playlists" are ticked, but I don't see anything about enabling syncing of latest tracks.

I would assume that as long as "music" is ticked, everything should sync, no?

MMA = MediaMonkey for Android
MMW = MediaMonkey for Windows.

Actual version number would be helpful.

If the new files belong to the Music Collection and the Music Collection is selected they should be synced on sync. Do make sure you're looking at the correct Device Profile as sometimes multiple exist or they names between internal and external memory get switched.

I'm using Windows version 4.1.14.1813. I'm not using the Android version at all.

The correct device profile is selected. The new tracks appear in the source (a USB drive) but are not copied across to the phone SD card during a sync.

Hi,
If you install MMA even you do not use it it should speed sync a lot as many things are handled within Android device library instead of MMW needing to scan folders for duplicates.

I just downloaded the latest version of MMA from the Play store.

It doesn't seem to have made any difference to the syncing process, the latest tracks are still missing. One thing to note: in MMA, at the top of the screen, just to the left of the search button, there's a permanently spinning wheel, as though the app is doing something. It spins all the time the app is open (a couple of hours now). Not sure if that means it's still scanning the files (my SD card music library is around 110GB). I've restarted the phone and also MMW a couple of times, but no difference.

As an aside, I tried using wifi sync from the app. It gives the message "Sync is waiting for other background applications to complete", but doesn't seem to go any further. The new tracks do not get synced.

Spinning circle means MMA is scanning for new files, while this is happening you can't wifi sync.

Does it still occur after a device reboot?

Well after leaving it connected overnight, the spinning wheel finally stopped. Still no joy with the USB syncing (the latest tracks still don't sync).

BUT.... the wifi syncing seems to have worked, including the missing tracks. So rather than spend more time on the USB thing, I'll just use the wifi sync from now on. I wouldn't want to sync a whole library in this way, but for just the handful of new tracks I add every couple of weeks, it should be fine.

Thanks for your help.

Many have problems with MTP driver freezes when doing USB syncs. Wifi sync gets around this.

One other quick point now that I've (hopefully) found a solution:

Does the auto conversion work the same via wifi as via USB? I have MMW set to automatically convert my lossless files to MP3 for the phone.

Hi,
Yes, both sync Methods should work as one once you set it up.

Wifi and USB sync work basically the same. The main difference is speed as wifi transfer generally is slower than USB transfer.
