Edit artists in file properties

Hi
While editing in "file properties" the drop down menu does not seem to work. This means I have to type in each artist even though I have typed in the artist previously.

Do you have any files in the Library and which node in the Media Tree are you in when editing Properties.

I am new to this. I assumed once you typed in a name it was stored automatically, like when you use calibre for ebooks.

This is true if the file is in the Library. It's not true if the file isn't in the Library.
