Not all songs in .m3u file being imported into MM playlist [#15976][#16015]

Post by stevemopolis »

I've exported a few of my iTunes playslists to .m3u files and scanned them into MM. Not all of the songs in the playlist are being imported into the MM playlist. I delete the .m3u file and the MM playlist, re-export from iTunes and rescan into MM and the same songs are missing. If I view the .m3u file in a text I can see the songs there but can't see what it different about them compared to other songs.

Maybe the files no longer exist in the exact Path on the Playlist. They could've been renamed, moved or deleted. Otherwise there may be non-standard characters causing issues (see if you can see a pattern with this).

I've checked that the missing songs exist in their proper place and are playable. For example, this .m3u entry is not included in the playlist even though the filepath and filename are correct:

#EXTINF:142,Do You Wanna Dance? (2012 Stereo Mix) - The Beach Boys
M:\iTunes Media\Music\The Beach Boys\Made In California CD 2 1965–1967\2-01 Do You Wanna Dance_ (2012 Stere.mp3

However, this .m3u entry IS included in the playlist:

#EXTINF:11,Radio Spot #4 - The Beach Boys
M:\iTunes Media\Music\The Beach Boys\Made In California CD 6 (From The Vaults\6-01 Radio Spot #4.mp3

When you paste and enter key this M:\iTunes Media\Music\The Beach Boys\Made In California CD 2 1965–1967\2-01 Do You Wanna Dance_ (2012 Stere.mp3 in the location in bar in File Explorer the file opens?

@Lowlander, it appears that you were correct about special characters. In the example I posted, the hyphen between the years is not a normal hyphen. When I updated the hyphens it imported into the MM playlist just fine. The other songs that weren't importing for me contained characters with accents and other foreign language characters. However, I would consider that a bug in MM as many song titles, band names and album titles contain foreign language characters.

That should work though, the problem may actually be the # which a special character for windows.

Hi,
I Just tested and could not replicate I even used Exact names-path you provided and could not replicate.

Can you clear MMW now Playing list and drag and drop that M3U to Now Playing. FYI are you exporting to M3U or M3U8?

If you copy and pasted my example into the .M3U file and filename, it will not import. If you type it in to both it will. The hyphen used between the years is not a "normal" hyphen that you would get when you type it. Once I overwrote the original hyphen in the filename are regenerated the .m3u file it imported just fine.

However, filenames with foreign characters such as é or ¡ will import into MM when doing a media scan and will appear in the .m3u file generated by iTunes but will not import into a MM playlist from the generated .m3u file. I've confirmed this by editing some song and album titles, changing those characters to un-accented characters and the imports work fine. This is a problem because I have a lot of French and Spanish songs in my collection.

I am generating .m3u files and not .m3u8 files. I will try dragging and dropping a test .m3u file into Now Playing. I have to look through my library and find some more songs with foreign characters.

I generated a .m3u playlist from iTunes for the album B-Tribe 5 which contains 3 songs with foreign characters in the title.

Code: Select all

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:182,Intro - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\01 Intro.mp3
#EXTINF:302,Anika - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\02 Anika.mp3
#EXTINF:291,Angelic Voices - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\03 Angelic Voices.mp3
#EXTINF:265,Demasiado - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\04 Demasiado.mp3
#EXTINF:235,Love - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\05 Love.mp3
#EXTINF:305,Mistério - Interlude - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\06 Mistério - Interlude.mp3
#EXTINF:308,Wisdom & Courage - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\07 Wisdom & Courage.mp3
#EXTINF:317,Ode to Dolores Del Rio - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\08 Ode to Dolores Del Rio.mp3
#EXTINF:252,Mi Alma Español - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\09 Mi Alma Español.mp3
#EXTINF:328,Lune Llena - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\10 Lune Llena.mp3
#EXTINF:252,¡Libera Me! - B-Tribe
M:\iTunes Media\Music\B-Tribe\B-Tribe 5\11 ¡Libera Me!.mp3
When I dragged and dropped the .m3u file into the Now Playing window I could see all of the songs but the songs with the foreign characters, tracks 6, 9 and 11, appeared greyed out and would not play. However, when I went into the library and found those 3 songs they played just fine. Importing the .m3u file into MM resulted in those 3 tracks not appearing in the imported playlist.

Hi,
Try to select Second M3U option in iTunes File -> Library -> Export Playlist as it will create M3U8 (and UTF-8 encoded playlist)?

We recently fixed similar issue in MM5 https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15976 Can you confirm that it is working in latest MM5 2202?

HINT: Install MM5 as portable so that it will not interfere with current Normal Install
