robertiles, I would also like to see the functionality you are talking about. Up to now I manage by having two program folders + mediamonkey.ini files - one pointing to the shared hard drive and one pointing to the local drive.

Teknojnky, regarding changing the 'My Music' location for your profile, is this the only way to have the player place the MediaMonkey.m3u file (now playing list) in the shared drive instead of the My Documents\My Music folder? It would be nice if this also was configurable in the ini file, like the path to the DB, VirtualCD and Preview directories.

still, imo nothing comes close to MM in terms of configurability, so i'm willing to live with such small inconveniences

Yes as far as I know, changing the "My Music" folder location is the only way to move the 'now playing' playlist.

For specifying/changing Special Folders inside windows you can use TweakUI (XP 2.10, Win9x 1.33)

I have just set up a Intel Duo 2gighz/2gb notebook with external 320 gig eSata drive via eSata PCMCIA card bus
Monkey is fast However, very specifically how are you configing MM install. Did you install on Ext drive my Example F: Media Monkey or F: My Music\Media Monkey
I installed just on the F: Drive and MM still makes the MM directory in My Music folder with ini I also tried to followed heinimuecki's Wise suggestion of Redirecting DB=F:\..........with a "undercover Name of Monkey.mdb
to another folder F:\Utilit\DatabaseMusic.mdb so it would not get over written by accident.
In your case as you have stated how do you do the install completely on the Ext HD as I was having difficulties in making it work properly. How are you doing it that I can not make it work. Please be exact simple step by step instruction so that I canot go wrong.
I am planning to install MM the same way with 3 compters and big drive to move the Drive around and as an option to sync them later first get part one working smoothly and with the help of your learning curve.
Thanks
