Move per user dir "MediaMonkey"

Hello!

I just don't want to change the location of the database file, which is very well explained in the readme file, but move the whole directory "MediaMonkey" to another location. At the moment, the directory is located under my own files' dir in the "my music" folder.

So can anyone help me with this operation?

Change the paths under :-
Tools > Options > Library > Virtual CD & Preview ??

It is quite annoying that many programs do create directories in there as they like. If I delete all these it does not take long until I have My Pictures, My Music, My eBooks (!), My Videos and what not again.

Formerly it seemed to be a good idea to use that directory for own stuff (although I have redirected that directory to a different folder). Nowadays it probably makes much more sense to create a new folder and use that.

But that's exactly what My Documents is intended for.

Thank you for you reply.

The mentioned Options change the location of the folders:

- Previews
- VirtualCD

My database can be moved with the ini-file change mentioned in the readme file:

- MediaMonkey.mdb

Now I do have three files left:

- mediamonkey.m3u
- MediaMonkey.ldb
- MediaMonkey.ini

How do I move these to another location, too?

Isn't there a quick and dirty method of moving the whole directory under "my music" to another location?
If not: developers listen up! The implementation of this feature would be very nice

DC do not get me wrong as I mainly agree, but there is clear reasons that MM do that.
1. MultiUser computer.
2. No Spyware (User allways know what is gong with and in MM)
3. most of programs just write most of settings in Registry (one wrong Answer and you got problem if you are normal user)
4. as pah68 said My documents is intended to be used just for that.
5. give user freedom of choice if he wants to delete then its deleted

I'm now on XP which is better but I remember that sometimes in some ocasions Windows\System holder on Win9x can be up to 1GB while I only installed/UnInstalled some programs (a bunch of DLLs that no one use). and now on XP I have complete Driver Database (250Mb) + XP Setup CABs on My HDD with bunch of uneeded Drivers and stuff I'll never use. Win. ME takes 1.2 Gb as it has whole instalation on HDD.

LINUX Rules in that matter. I have temp killers runned every time my system boots-Up and hate this too but probobobly it is the best solution, as I do not want to have my registry too big. Win. Project what else I can say.

In one thing I agree with you DC that any program could implement support for different settings than default?

BTW There is solution for some of that problems it is called Tweek UI in which under My Computer TAB you can edit all 'Special Folders' like My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, .... even Startup Menu and Send To.. Menu which helped me to easy my day a lot.

BTW Today Win XP has deleted some of my temp Files that I left for later use (File cleaning option) as uneeded, and I hate him very very much.

Ok that is correct. And I also agree that a little question (which data folder to use) during the setup (or maybe in the options) would be even better.

Yes I know that one, and in fact, have used it to reroute My Documents to C:\Home which suits my tastes much better. Within that folder I have my own ordered chaos, uhm I mean folder structure

, and something like My eBooks simply annoys me there. You cannot even change that one with TweakUI. Hence I've come to the conclusion that next time I leave My Documents where it is, every application can put in there what it likes, same as with C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data, and I stop caring about it because C:\Home won't be polluted again. The MM database I will have to manually over there but together with the original poster some files remain and might be forgotten for backups...

Neither do I but it was triggered when on one small partition I have created got <100Mb of space.

MediaMonkey.ini can be moved to {Program files}\MediaMonkey folder and thus there would only remain MediaMonkey.m3u in 'My Music' after you moved database, VCD and previews.
