SHN (Shorten) Format - available plugin to play SHN?

Post by twroveto »

Hello....

I am a long time collector of live music and I have nearly a couple thousand shows and a lot of them are stored in a format called SHN, simular to FLAC... less popular now. Anyway I would like to to be able to one play SHN in MM and then also convert them to hq mp3. I believe and I could be wrong that SHN files won't hold tag information like FLAC and all the rest. I know winzip can play these files with a plugin and I know many winzip plugins will work with MM.

Anyway, I would love to start getting all my live stuff off storage cd and onto my machine so I can listen to it. Any direction or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I know that I can convert the SHNs to wav and then to mp3 but if I could take out that step I would overcome with joy.

Anyway, thank you and thank you to the MM people too. I've been using it for over nine months now and I couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks,

Tucker

I didn't find anything when I first search but I think I was too specific.. anyway I have a number of threads. Hopefully they can lead me through it. I'll post here if I have any problems... anyone with knowledge and suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks - Tucker

Very very cool.... I am very excited.

It did take a reboot before I could actually play the SHN format, so I was nervous for a moment.

MM rocks!!

Sorry for the extra post... kinda jumped the gun I guess.

In terms of converting SHN files, I think at one time I was doing the same thing and I used a program called "Monkey's Audio" (not MM) that let me convert from SHN to other formats. I think I was converting to FLAC although I had to really tweak the program to do that. It does easily convert from SHN to MP3 though. It's free and just a converter.

Yes, but if you can read SHN files in MediaMonkey, you can convert them to MP3 in MediaMonkey.

What's the trouble.

That is correct. I am able to convert the shn to mp3 along with the all the tags applied to it before converting. Works great!! Love this stuff.

When I needed to convert SHN files to FLAC, I discovered the free MKW converter which easily converts SHN to WAVE for FLAC Frontend input.
