Getting MM3 to ignore mp4 files on my iPod

Post by .Someone. »

I'm having a problem with mp4 files and my iPod. Basically, even though MediaMonkey 3 supports mp4 files which is the same format iPods use for their video, putting them in the MediaMonkey library and syncing them to the iPod doesn't work quite right since MediaMonkey only reads them as audio files. The result is that they appear in my iPod's Music section instead of the usual Movies section and then don't even play right. To get around this, I decided to set up my synchronization according to this guide. It all works great, but now whenever I sync my music with MediaMonkey, it always prompts me and asks if I want it to delete the mp4 files that are on my iPod since they aren't found in the MediaMonkey library. Of course I just uncheck them all and continue on with the sync. What I'd like MediaMonkey to do is just ingore any mp4 files it finds on my iPod and neither touch them nor prompt me. Is this possible?

syncing iPod Video

Any response to this? This is what keeps me from using MM to sync my iPod Video.

Rename your video files to M4V?

I can't think of any other possible solution... sorry.

This will be most likely somehow resolved in the next release.

Was this done for MediaMonkey 3.0 Beta 1 (3.0.0.1069)? I'm not having any luck, but maybe I'm missing some configuration trick or something ....

No, it wasn't done yet, but it's on our to-do list, so hopefully very soon...

What the heck, is this thing called MediaMonkey, or MusicMonkey?

While thinking about a solution, I wonder - wouldn't it help to enter '*.mp4' to the list of folders ignored for deletion from iPod?

I can see that as a temporary solution, but the real solution should be for MediaMonkey to sync .mp4 files correctly. Maybe similar to Winamp: specify which directories contain audio files, and which contain video files, then sync accordingly.

B4: Now how do we sync our iPod Videos?

Post by PromisedPlanet »

OK, my impression from reading the announcement of the B4 release is that B4 might work better with MP4s when it comes to syncing iPod Videos. Here was my experience.

After installing B4, I had it sync my iPod Video, which already contained music and movies. After it was done syncing, I checked my iPod Video, and all of the MP4 videos were gone, but an M4V video was still there. (The MP4s were probably listed within the "confirm delete" list, but there were a lot of MP3s in there also so probably the MP4s were at the bottom of the list and I didn't see them).

I checked the Auto-Conversion tab's "Supported formats on device" and saw that MP4 was listed, but not M4V. Ah ha, so all I need to do is remove MP4 from the supported format list, and MM3 will ignore MP4s and not remove them, right?

So I put my MP4s back on my iPod using iTunes, removed MP4 from the supported format list in MM3, and did a resync ... the "confirm delete" list pops up showing all my MP4s. So, we're back to Square One (if we ever left it).

Has anyone figured out how to get MM3 to play nice with iPod Videos? Thanks.

I have not. Very frustrating experience because I want MM3 to work with my 5.5g ipod, but I'm not having any luck with keeping video podcasts organized properly on the ipod menu.

What do others do?
