Please do NOT implement this one-click-rating. I hated it, when I was using WMP. It happend too often clicking on some stars by mistake and rating that track unintentional. I think it's safer the way it is working now for 2-3 clicks to be reasonable.

Best of course would be an option to have 1 click ratings or the dropdown.

While we are talking about UI improvements, I think it would be an improvement if all yes/no dropdown were replaced with CHECKBOXES. (an example being options > library > file monitor > startup scans & subfolders)

This would be more inline with standard windows user interface elements.

I found this topic while searching... I agree that a 1 click rating would be nice improvement... It may not be a top-priority but it would make a huge difference for me.

Looks like rk started this thread as a guest... I think that means he (or she) can't add a poll.

I think this is a Really great request... but maybe rk and I are the minority. I'm going to start a new thread with the same subject "Better rating user interface (2nd post)" so we'll have a poll.

Or... if the admin can add a poll to this one, that would be even better... admin, go ahead and delete mine if you add one here.

Would like the 1 click interface as well. I am currently taking on the daunting task of rating my 20,000+ songs. To which my Media Monkey (Gold User) has so far helped me organize and create dynamic unrated playlists for the app and my IPOD.

Currently I am up to about 2,700 songs rated (2 months of work, must backup mm database ;) ), and when listening at home this option would help my cause for sure.

The poll mentioned above is located at:

My "BrowseByArt" Playing node has a one-click rating system where you can rate entire albums with a single click. It's the only rating system I use! :)
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

Unfortunatly I am a bit more picky as there are very few albums I would give a rating to all songs as a 4 or 5 star ;) Thanks though for all the scripts as I do use some!

You can rate each song individually as well! What I tend to do is rate a couple of the tracks (if it's an album I really like!) with maybe a 5 or 4.5 star rating and then rate the album as 4 - this gives all the tracks with a unknown rating a rating of 4 (leaving the previously rated tracks). It's massively speeded up my rating process whilst keeping it manual (I don't like automatic rating systems).

you all don't want to do the rating of your songs by clicking

because you want better way of doing it ?

what's wrong with this thread? umm!!!

could be that nobody reads the script forum room?

go look there are atleast 2 auto scripts to use for rating the songs
when you don't even clcik anything on monkey.

i use diddeleedoo's script as do some others

and then yet others understand and use big berny's script.

but get one of them and let monkey do youre ratings for you
once you set up your options in any of them you will get the rating done the way you like with out even clicking on anything..

thats stops your single click mouse over alltogether.

As I've said, I prefer a little more control over my ratings than that which an automatic solution can provide. And I prefer for my unheard tracks to remain unrated so I know that I haven't decided if I like them or not yet! :)

Very cool will have to check that out :D

I agree.

ROving Cowboy, I looked at those auto scripts and while they are very well thought out they are no replacement for listing to a song and rating it yourself. It is just that I am rating allot :|

Being that most auto rating systems are based on play count it does not fit with mine as #1 I always listen to music on shuffle/random and correct me if wrong but MM does not grab play count from you IPOD when syncing.

edit* thanks for the catch junglemonkey... am used to my forums where it shows history of posts below when writing a post so it is easy to refer ;)

i don't know about how ipod gets playcounts?

but yep the ratings are always done with playcounts how ever diddeleedoo hass gone to great troubles to include users wants kind of like some sort of emotion setting? or he did have that in. i know he just updated it with a new version i don't what that code looks like.

and i really don't use the one only he has improved it more then what i wanted to use and so he made me a custom version but mine is way more complexe then normal users will want.

since i play mine on radom all the time and i mean all the time it is all set up automaticly with scripts from peke, diddeleedoo, and someothers for setting bpm and tempos and other stuff that i wanted done automaticly i don't even start the computer only if i stop the whole system, then i need to start it.

other then that it does all on automatic including closing monkey and restarting the computer all means ALL.

oh and it is ROving cowboy not raving.

if you seen some other posts of mine you will also see i am junglemonkey when i don't log in.
so you can call me by any of those to handles or my real name keith hall.

please ignore the typos in the above post. it seems my modem is acting up again. it has misspelled words and even took some words out.

i typed " diddeleedoo has " not what it shows.

and i typed " i don't know what " not what it shows. the rest of it was correct before i posted this.

You can sync iPod playcounts with MediaMonkey. I don't know how the auto-rate scripts handle this as I guess that they're fired only when a song is played.

Anyway the auto-rate scripts only work if you listen to the collection the way they define for determining rating. If you listen differently the auto-ratings might not reflect the rating you would personally give a track. The benefit auto-rating scripts can have is that as time passes by past popular tracks might drop in rating, just as they would in the real word for hyped songs.
