Hey Mark,
Awesome that you're doing all your best to get MM to work on OS X. Like Zoe I'm a newbe when it comes to emulating Windows applications. Could you provide us with a n00b-proof tutorial of how to exactly get MM to work in Wineskin or is that a lot of trouble? Or perhaps upload a ready-to-go package we can use? I (and many others i think) would really really appreciate that

Thanks for an answer, I really miss MM since I got my macbook.
Regards

MM4 beta releases are published here (they're coming out nearly daily now)

d_itunes4.dll is published here

Sorry but a full Wineskin guide will have to wait until I have some quiet time. In practice it's the same order as the POM instructions (you don't need the portable choice though). I suspect most of your problems are the Wineskin app itself though - take a look at the forums and try some bits out. It really isn't that difficult. See below for a few notes.
I'm running MM4 build 1414 under Wine 1.3.24 via Wineskin 2.3 on a Mackbook Air with OSX Lion 10.7. There are later versions of Wine and Wineskin now.
* Obtain WineSkin's Winery from
http://wineskin.doh123.com/tiki-index.p ... =Downloads and Install (The Winery is the central location from which all the bits of program are downloaded and updated)
* Run Winery and update the Wineskin Wrapper (this will download). This can create your new MM4.app folder with the embedded Wine bits.
* Add a new Wine Engine (this will download). This is a precompiled Wine build for Mac.
* Click "Create New Blank Wrapper" and name it MM4. This can take quite some time. Download the Gecko installation when prompted.
* Note that your new MM4.app will be at /Users/dad/Applications/Wineskin/MM4. Click "Open folder in Finder"
* Doubleclick click the MM4 app to open Wineskin and Click "Advanced"
* Click "Tools" and then "Winetricks"
* Choose "IE6" off the drop-down list and click "Run". This will download (slowly) and install.
* Double click the MM4 app and Click "Install windows software"
* Navigate to your MM4 installation exe file.
* Follow the normal MM installation. Habitually I don't run in skinned mode, I find that it runs faster. Deselect "Run MediaMonkey now" at the end.
* Choose the "MediaMonkey (non skinned).exe" off the provided list
* Quit
* Double click the MM4 app folder to launch MM4. This can take quite a while to run the first time.
There are some good examples in section 6 here

Of course running MediaMonkey under Wineskin means you can run 2 copies quite independently.

Thanks mark,
I followed your instructions exactly and was able to get MM working to the point it could install and add music to the library but could not play it. I reread your previous posts and found out I needed the MAD plugin. Now, I dont know much about bash, so instead I simply went on my PC, installed the mmip through media monkey, then grabbed the in_mad.dll and the two ini's and brought them over to my mac and put them in the corresponding folder inside the .app after that, i simply renamed the f_ape and the f_mpc. and now mediamonkey can play music!
And considering most ppl who are trying to get MM on a mac have most likely used MM on a PC, this workaround is useful to those who dont have wine, winepath, or dont understand how to create bash scripts. Now I can finally use MM instead of...itunes....

Unfortunately, I spoke to soon. While playing songs, the player randomly fast forwards then stops, then jumps forward again, and plays and so forth. Sometimes MM just freezes after doing this for awhile. And my files are not corrupted.

In your previous post u said to delete f_mpe, i only found a f_mpc. perhaps thats the cause?

To be honest I'm unsure. From recollection I've had experiences both ways i.e. deleting some select plugins and not deleting any - they both seemed to work.
The MAD plugin needs to be installed via it's EXE as there are some registry updates too. I suspect that these are necessary.
There is an MMIP for the MAD Plugin too that might be easier to use

The installation of MMIP files continues to be a challenge for Wine users. My Ubuntu workaround is messy to say the least. The Wineskin mechanisms don't seem to work at all even though they are based on the same Wine code.
I've tried to get a simple addition done to MM but it's going nowhere

I'm having problems getting build 1422 to run under Wineskin. I'd be surprised if the developers have done something major at this phase of testing so I think that I'm doing something silly.
Can anyone else get build 1422 to work under Wine 1.3.26?

Looks like someone else has tried build 1415 for Linux.

Looks like 1424 fixes things ...

With the new "Add" button for extensions then the MAD plugin is very easy to install. The latest version can be found at ...

I'd suggest sticking at Wine 1.3.24 or below right now. Above is almost totally using mmdevapi which is very problematic still with the Wine CoreAudio driver for Mac OS X.
Wineskin wrappers are also made to share... not everyone has to reproduce everything if one person sets up a zipped version to share so others can just download and run it.
