Of course I could look at the extension and ASSUME what the file contains from that .. but having a defined TYPE is much easier.
That's not really fair to just say "extension". You know that there are dozens of other fields you could use, and I'm sure that your movie vs TV vs music tracks are saved into different folders on your PC. So why not just use those folders/file path to identify what is what?

Having available "Types" is extremely Important when it comes to "Auto-Organize" with your "Collections.

As stated Type is just a field, any other field can be used for your needs as Collections can use any field as criteria and thus in Auto-Organize.

Is this still being planned for 4.1? I'd like to start using MediaMonkey to manage a collection of sound effects I have, which would require distinct playback rules.

4.1 has already been released, so no.

Movies, I desperately need it for syncing and UPnP browsing setup. I can't set it to TV (which would solve UPnP browsing issues, but causes sync problems) and as Videos it has the wrong UPnP browsing (Series are split on Director, which makes no sense for Movies).

Another Gold license owner requesting that either "Movie" be added as a type or that custom types be added!
This seemingly simple feature has been requested for years and y'all can't be bothered to listen and implement?

Has this feature still not been added? I need to Add a Custom Type for "Christmas" so that I can filter out all of my Christmas Music from the rest the same way we currently filter Classical Music. I do not want to hear any Christmas Music in June when I play a genre or a year using Shuffle.
I have tried using "Occasion" or "Grouping" and then filter out those into a Collection, however it does not always work correctly. If one song on an album is seasonal then the entire album gets marked seasonal. So for instance I have Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Greatest Hits entirely in the Christmas Collection just because I marked the Grouping or Occasion for one single song - "Father Christmas". I cannot figure out for the life of me how to make one song from an album show in a collection and not the entire album. If that was possible I could use one of these other options without the Type - however, Type would be a whole lot easier.

I have did some additional research and found this may just be a bug in the software. In my example above with the ELP Greatest Hits - it appears to only be an issue with Genre. Using the "Occasion" filter set to "Christmas" and then filtering the Music collection to not include the occasion "Christmas "and the Christmas collection to only include it - Everything works with the exception of Genre in both collections. I have only been looking at Genre so I assumed the issue was the collection, however it is the Genre's under the collection.
In other words, the entire album shows under Genre for all songs in both the Music and Christmas collections. This looks to me like it is just a bug and very fixable - if this can be fixed then I have a work around to use instead of the custom Type - though I still think that would be much easier to manage.

One more additional issue with the Collections is in the Android App. I am able to add the new Collections (one of which is Christmas and another I call CCM), however in the App it does not separate the Collections. The App appears to work off of Type only. In other words, I am able to have a "Node" for Classical Music and Music which are two of the collections on my computer that are filtered by "Type", but the custom collections I created on the computer (Christmas & CCM) are basically merged together with Music on the Android because the two collections are filtered by occasion (as mentioned in the previous posts) but are forced to share the same "Type" since there is no way to customize that.
The result is on my phone, I cannot control the shuffle to not include Christmas when I play really whatever since it is all piled together. While a Play List would resolve this to a degree - I have over well 10,000 tracks and sometimes I just want to hear anything from 1977 - but not Christmas. Sometimes I want to hear anything R&B but not Christmas, but as stated previously - that does not work on the computer or the Android, but for two separate reasons.
It is hard to believe that I am the only person who has ran in to these issues. If I am doing something wrong, then please let me know.

Collections filter on files, not Albums, thus only files that match the Criteria should be included. If you can reproduce the same problem on
MediaMonkey 2024, please let us know.

I am using:
Computer: MediaMonkey Gold 2024.1.0.3113
MediaMonkey Pro Android: 2.0.5.1248
I believe those are the latest versions.

Ah, you're posting in the MediaMonkey 4 forum, this is why.
Can you post a
screenshot of the Collection Criteria that is causing issues?

I am posting here because it came up when searching for Add Custom Type. I did not know it was for a certain version.
