I am all for mediamonkey integration into Windows 8 store...

However, I don't think a full version of mediamonkey is really needed. Just a cloud player. Most people with windows RT devices also have a more powerful computer for organizing their music. Surface looks pretty cool and it has great productivity which will make it more than just a coffee table decoration, but it just isnt powerful enough to scroll through thousands of songs and run programs like mediamonkey. My 2 year old $500 laptop lags with mediamonkey, and surface seems to have around the same capabilities as it after playing with it in store for 30 minutes or so.

Instead we need some gorgeous cloud players for windows phone 8, windows 8 store, and in HTML5 for browsers. Right now I barely use mediamonkey... I just use to organize playlists. Then I export it to grooveshark with the add-on I made (in my sig). I play most of my music via phone, tablet, laptop, and various other peoples browsers. I sometimes play it off my PC, but out of habit I will often still use grooveshark at that point. Mediamonkey needs more cloud connectivity, it needs to look good, be fast, and easy to set up. To be honest, I see mediamonkey of being a product of the 2000's.

It is unable to keep up with the new ways of listening to music. I still use it because I have an obsession with organization and playlists, but it has become unpractical because it doesn't play nice and pretty enough with my devices.

The desktop application will be our beloved MediaMonkey as we know it today. I cannot think of any way to port all of the functionality of MM into the app without making a big mess on a tablet (I will be glad to be proven wrong!). So I hope the app would be some sort of player, fairly similar to the player available with Windows 8 at the moment. Maybe the desktop version and the app can comunicate via a custom Window Library when you work on the same PC or via synchronization, probably WiFi, when you work with a tablet.
Good points.

Are we talking about a MM app that can play music on Win8/Win8 RT devices, or an app that can control a headless server, or both?

P.S. Both is a great answer, but I really need the 2nd one. :)

Moved to Windows 8 and I am waiting eagerly for your Metro App. I expect it not be a downgrade of functionality like so many other apps.

Good to hear MM will be available on Windows 8. My queries are:
1. Will current MM for Win 7 run OK on Win 8 Desktop?
2. Will the planned Metro App play FLAC?
3. Will planned Metro App allow 'Music' app to play FLAC?

I have upgraded my laptop to Win 8 and use MM on my Win 7 desktop, so Yes to all 3 would be excellent.

1) MediaMonkey 4.0.7 should run on Windows 8.

Thanks. Yes, I can confirm it does run on Windows 8 Desktop. I read the MM website more carefully after posting the above message and downloaded 4.0.7. It works perfectly, but would still like to play FLAC files from a MediaMonkey app or the 'Music' app in Metro.

I would LOVE a Windows RT app. Now that Windows Phone 8 supports the MTP Media transfer Protocol you guys should be able to develop something really great. My number one feature i'm looking for is true sync. I want to plug my phone into my surface and have the app launch and copy anything on my phone to the Surface RT. Let me choose what to sync. Let me choose specific playlists to sync. I would love to see ratings since MS decided that feature wasn't important. I'm curious how DRM will be handled in an RT version. I loved that in MM i can manage all of my Zune Pass songs and still play them without using Zune software for playback. I am VERY excited for this.

I would love to see a try option for this as well as paying upwards of 9.99 for such a product knowing you guys will continue to evolve and support it. I think this is a huge opportunity for you guys since MS now has an official marketplace and could get you some huge exposure to your full desktop product.

Do we have an updated ETA on it's initial release? And a goal feature set for initial release?

This is about a Windows 8 Metro App, not about syncing Windows Phone 8 or Windows 8 RT. If Windows Phone 8 supports MTP MediaMonkey should already be able to sync with it. I'm not sure if MediaMonkey works on Windows 8 RT (it should work on Windows 8 ).

Just like to add my support for this, especially seeing the stock metro music app is so lacking. WMP hasn't evolved nearly enough over the years, and although the regular program still works, I'd still like a metro styled version, or even what might be considered a front end.

Any news on the Windows 8 Metro App? Is there a beta we can play with?

:)

MediaMonkey works on Windows 8 but not on RT. Really looking forward to a MM Metro app.

We have some internal builds that already work pretty well, we plan to make some (pre-)release soon.

Awesome - can't wait for a MM metro app for RT, will it play flac files as the majority of my collection is ripped (using MM :) ) as flac files and currently there's no flac compatible music app for RT.
