Make sure you have write and change permissions on that directory for the user that's running MediaMonkey

For what it's worth, I had this problem for a long time. I am reasonably meticulous about my album art tagging, preferring to save them into the ID3 tag so that I don't lose them when my library corrupts or I move my media.
I did have full access to the media monkey temp folder, that was one of the first things I checked. However, the same inability for Mediamonkey to generate thumbnails for a good portion of my albums still plagued me. The thing that worked for me was to change my MediaMonkey temp folder to a separate folder of my creation on another drive. As I have stated however, I didn't have any privilege problems with the old folder. So I can't say for sure why this fixed my problem, or whether it's even completely solved. (Only been running like this for an hour, so far without the same bug). But that this is something you guys should definitely try.

Thanks for the tip. But I'm confused by your statement on how you fixed it. Can you explain a bit more and/or give an example?
Thanks!

In Tools > Options > General he changed the location of the temp folder to a different drive.

Oh. Hmmm.... That doesn't seem logical to me that it would help, but I'm glad it did!

It is still sometimes VERY frustrating (my playback selection is based on covers - much faster to decide what to listen to.)

Also the image generation is pretty slow (one after another, pausing for second or 2 sometimes), even though the tracks/album art has not been changed.

AND even after waiting until MM generates Album view IT DOES NOT SHOW THEM.

1st time:

After 3d refresh (yes, it does not work sometimes even on the first refresh.)

4th refresh: (that is how it should be).

Weird, I cannot reproduce this problem. My art always appears in the art views. I wonder what is different in our setups to account for this.

Others have reported issue too, but I haven't seen this either. Even my old machine over the network works fairly fast.

I'd suggest creating a debug log, it might show why it fails to show the Album Art in the first view: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

I wonder if it has something to do with Vista/Win 7 and account permissions or if this appears on XP too.

I had it on Vista when I originally created this post, now also on Win 7 64.

I have Win 7 Ultimate with all admin rights and all permissions set to the lowest level (less security).

If it has been caused by Win 7 account permissions - I would expect it to be more consistent - that the picture which does not show up, won't be displayed also after the refresh. Because of this inconsistency - I think it is MM interpretation only.

Also I found that in MM 4 the problem still exists. Though the album art is rendered a little quicker, not for all albums consistently. Also it is rendered 'several times' - I can see the screen (MM app) blinking 2-3 times, when the art is rendered. My expectation would be - it should blink not more than once, if at all.

Also I found that in both MM3 and MM4 at least one of my album arts shown with a lower resolution in the mian view screen than the picture in Album Art viewer.
I am very convinced, that the issue with album art is caused by the way MM stores the pictures. Where does it store the pictures for already identified album art.

I hope that this Bug can be caught by MM4 Beta testers.
I can't stand MM4 anymore - it crashes too often, and my currently very favorite skin is not supported, and some GUI glitches (made screenshots, going to post in other thread).

MM stores the cached art files for the album art views in the temp folder defined in the options. (Options > General)

MM stores then cache of Album Art wrong.

For example:
Left picture - currently playing. Right at the button - Arbum Art Grid Viewer. The quality in the viewer is from older picture.

Old picture in the Grid viewer, when there is actually a newer picture there (after computer restart - same error).

Shows the picture in the Grid, when there is no picture at all on the selected tracks.

With similar problems in MM4. Where the Matrix is shown without Album in Grid Viewer (to the right):

Did you change the images outside of MediaMonkey?

I've noticed this as well when I was updating much of the album art in my library. It is as if the cache doesn't update very easily. The workaround I used was to simply delete the cache and let MM rebuild it.
