I'm sure I'm not bringing up any new information but I wonder have the MM devs seen http://www.audioscrobbler.net/development/ ? It looks like support for MM must come from without before it comes from within. Or something. :)

Yes, this is my first post. I'm looking for a replacement for Winamp since 5.5x seems to crash incessantly when doing any sort of playlist manipulation (primarily when saving). Unfortunately, Winamp also has everything I need in the way of features. MediaMonkey looks like it would be a great alternative (my primary need is an "autofill" feature for my Zen Stone but it looks like MM's autoplaylists might cover that) but as I'm also a last.fm (client) user, I hesitate to switch to MM when I've got to hassle with the client auto-update nag while using a deprecated Winamp plugin. I'd much rather see a dedicated MM plugin and get rid of Winamp altogether.

I had a search around the forums but didn't find anything specific to the link I posted above. If there's some information I've missed regarding internal support for audioscrobbler, please point me to it.

Thanks!

D'oh! I really thought I had registered here at one point. Sorry all. That guest post above is mine.

Cheers!

You don't need winamp installed to use the plugin. And as long as you use the old version, everything works perfect. I don't have a problem with cancelling the upgrade request, although I hope it will be resolved one day.

If you're still with winamp and have a nice amount of MP3s, switch today rather than tomorrow! Trust me, I was a dedicated winamp user myself until I installed MM for the first time ;)

Until I play a track that requires Unicode. Hmm, I don't think I need that but still.
I don't have a problem with cancelling the upgrade request,
Oh, that would drive me bananas. I'm also quite neurotic! :P

That won't happen until/unless a dedicated plugin is developed, I'm afraid.

I do and I want to but alas, you haven't convinced me yet. Thanks for trying though. :)

If you use option 2 mentioned here, you do not have to deal with the nagging upgrade message. :D

Ah, that version of the plugin is so old (I remember it well) it would be like taking a step backwards. Thanks, though.

Are there no plans to develop a dedicated plugin for MediaMonkey? Why all the hassle with Winamp?

Our priority, at the moment is on getting MM3 out the door, so this will have to wait a little bit longer. To assuage your concerns about the lack of unicode support, see most recent test results below (you'll have to trust me that this was scrobbled with the MM plugin):

Sweet! I'll be patient. Thanks everyone for the help understanding what's going on with MM and last.fm. :)

what is the difference between the old plugin and the newer one (that is not the newest because the newest one does not work with MM) which also needs the application installed to use ?

Not sure why old is bad... it works fine for me.
It Scrobbles - thats' what counts, right?

I would imagine that if you are paying for your Last.fm membership (in which you get more features such as a personalized radio station) that the newer Last.fm client is much more preferable since you can't use the plugin to play any last.fm radio stations. Other features missing from the plugin which are included in the last.fm client include applying your own "tags" to played music and being able to "love" a track.

Of course if these features aren't important to you, then the old audioscrobbler plugin is probably preferable.

Guess it's a good thing you're a user yourselves :)
Can hardly wait till a version is released woohoow!

One question though, from the looks of the screenshot it seems like a fully integrated plugin, so it won't use the last.fm application, right?
