"Local" sync

Post by robertiles »

Hi

I may be missing something here but ....

I work all day on a laptop running MediaMonkey with a library of 3,000 tracks sitting on a network drive. The mediamonkey database is on my laptop.

Sometimes, I go out of the office with my laptop and I want to treat it (my laptop that is) as a portable player so I can synch tracks to it ... the only way I can find is to set up a drive letter to an area of my local disk and sync to that ... is there no "sync to a local folder"?

Then all I need to know is how to tell media monkey to use the local area instead of the database to the networked drive and I'll be happy ... I think ;-)

You can use virtual cd for this, it will store the files files form your network drive in the virtual cd folder.

Alternatively, its possible use the generic usb plugin to simulate a mp3 player, just set a device name, set the drive letter and label, and specify the sync path and options.

edit:

Just want to add, make absolutely sure that if you have delete files enabled, that you have confirmation... otherwise you could end up deleting most of your drive (because MM will think its a mp3 player and attempt to remove non-sync files).

Thank you, I'll look at virtual CD first ...

You can try one of my plugins (Fan page from Signiture) that I wrote for that Purpose It has done a great job for me. I simplyfied instalation so it could be easy to work with.
MM own "Virtual CD" could do the trick as it cache tracks from network/Removable drives (CDs & DVDs, USB HDDs,...) on local drive.
and you can set format and folder where MM will store cached files (Tools->Options->Library->Virtual CD & Preview)
