Problem changing tags on same files multiple times.

Hi,

I noticed that sometimes my tag changes aren't saved or only saved partially. I think I have figured out when this happens.

Sometimes you need to change some files tags multiple times.
e.g. You have one album poorly tagged, so you perform these steps:
1. Get Artists and Title from filename
2. Update Album, Album Artists, Year and Genre
3. Run the Case Checker script

I always wait until the "tracks to tag" counter is done before i goto the next step since I noticed some strange behaviour otherwise.

The problem:
Eventhough I wait until the "tracks to tag" counter is done, it seems that MM still is performing some update of the tags. The files actually "blinks" during this process (which, as already said, happens after the tag counter is done).

If I try to tag the files before this "blinking" is finished, the new tag info is neglected and the tag is reverted to the old value!

This behaviour has been going on for a while and I can't remember when it started.

Has anyone else noticed this?
If not can you reproduce it?

Thanks.

Similar issues have been reported. The new beta's solve problems with file locking. Try the new beta's (or wait till the final release) to test if it solves the problem you are experiencing.

I'm on the latest beta (sorry forgot the say that). This behaviour started (long?) before MM 2.5.3 and its betas.

Yea its been a long standing 'bug', I come across it often if I do not wait long enuff after fixing tags, then adding album art or changing ratings etc.

A completely consistent example is:

Queue a bunch of files for volume analysis, then change the ratings.

After the track is analyzed, it will revert to the previous rating (and any other tag changes).

Unless I'm wrong that would be the thing that the beta's fixed. It's a very annoying bug and I was hopeful that 2.5.4 would fix it.

@MM-Team,

Are you aware of this behaviour?
Is this something you consider to improve in the future?

Yes, we have noticed it. We'll try to fix it in MM 2.5, but more likely due to possible side-effects it will have to wait for MM 3.0.

I don't know if this will help or not, but has anyone checked to see if the system is caching the drive the files are on? Either waiting longer or turning caching off may solve the problem (or not).
