weird scrolling song title

Hi,

This seems like an issue I have seen before in some old versions (2.2 ? 2.3 ?) of MediaMonkey. I experience it now with build 2.5.4.975
Sometimes, at random intervals, the scrolling song title in the player doesn't seem to refresh correctly. Then you'll see all kind of texts through each other. I have scrolling of the song title enabled.

Included is a screenshot

What plugins are you using?

I'm using only the stock-plugins that are common to this MediaMonkey release and haven't installed any other plugins. I don't use any visualization plugins.

Hope this helps,

I also get this using the WinXP Olive Skin.
My problem usually starts with the scrolling text looking like the above pic' then it locks/freezes although playback continues, then I will see a distortion of the player "bleeding" through somewhere unrelated to the player position elswhere on the screen.

The player also locks/freezes when any editing or quick change of nodes etc is done.

MM 2.5.4.975
Win XP Home SP2 plus all latest updates
NVIDIA 7900 GT with latest drivers
1Gb Memory (around 500Mb available while MM is running)
Plugins running in MM...
Detailed Song Info Panel
Milk Drop Visualisations embedded via Steegy's embedding script
Library Panes

I have tried without these scripts but no change.
I was having problems with album art and disabled MiniLyrics which appears to have fixed that problem.

I have noticed I can force a problem with the player with a fairly high re-occurrence rate by changing a library field from descending to ascending or in the reverse especially if I have been doing a lot of editing via the properties window.

I will post a screenshot of the problems I am experiencing when it occurs today to try and help with fixing this annoying problem.

Player display problem

We've been unable to replicate this issue.

Is this problem sensitive to the layout that you use? e.g. default layout of MM vs. customized layout?

Have you modified skinning settings in any way?

Thx.

Hi Rusty

In my case I have changed the following...

Overide Skin Backgrounds

1. Changed: colour of tree background bmp
2. Changed: list background
3. Changed: now playing background
2/3 changes are, from Win XP Olive default to iTunes skin backgrounds bmp's

I am happy to trial without these changes, but I wouldn't have thought these tweak's alone would have caused a problem like this?

Thanks

I get this too. Try changing ratings of a song a few times while it's playing.

Can you tell me your skinning settings?

Same thing happens to me. Windows theme.

Happens when the rating of a playing track is changed or when its properties are updated during playback.

Happened occasionaly before, but was ok in 2.5.3. Reappeared, I think in RC-1 or RC-2, and now happens pretty much every time.

Ariel gives a very good description of the problem. I've tried all sorts to avoid the problem, like skins, plug-ins, updated graphics drivers.. Only thing I haven't tried yet is disabling everything else on the computer.

But as Ariel says, it is a problem that has become worse, to the point I do not care to have the player visible at all. Trying to get used to using the Notification Area icon to do things now.

Before I used to have 'Now Playing' docked too, but since I have to turn it 'on' everytime I restore MM from the Notification Area, I've stopped using Now Playing docked too.

Simple way to reproduce. Have Now Playing Docked in the Main Window, go to the Notification Area, and hit Restore, and the Now Playing goes away.

I'm stipped down to using just the main window these days, and have sort of accepted that that's something I have to get used to. Glad to see I'm not the only one experience the problem though.

Here’s a screen shot of how mine went just a few minutes ago.
I haven't been able to get the breakup and "bleeding" which usually follows a player freeze, to show for a day or so yet.

I was tagging Unknown Art via Amazon Auto Tag and using properties for editing when this occurred.

I don't know if you can see it in the pic’ but under the scrolling text is a frozen line of text from an earlier song which would suggest that whatever was being played back at that time has frozen and possibly my shutting player down and restarting several times has got it going again but hasn't cleared the frozen text.

Hope this helps.

Just thought, to make it clear, this is only a visual problem and playback and other functions do continue. What I usually end up doing after a while is restarting MM to clear the issue.

Here is the broken up player showing through the top left corner of the "files to edit\unknown album art" window.

The player is at the bottom left of screen and has frozen.

I had just been editing tags in "files to edit\unknown album art" when I clicked on "library" to refresh the total number of unknown album art files left to do and on returning to the editing windows this happened.

It can happen when doing large blocks of ratings, or editing in properties, but always when the system is under load.

PLease! any solutions to this.

Hi Rusty,

I use all custom settings, even the skin is custom.
Digging in my memory I think the weirdness also appears after editing (multiple) tracks.

Hope this helps

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for help on this problem. It seems no one is interested.

I've given up waiting for assistance on this topic!
