iPod Shuffle losing bookmarks on synchronization (2.5.4.978)

I searched for "bookmark" and didn't find any topics, so I presume this hasn't been reported yet. If it has, I apologize.
Since the release notes say this was fixed in 2.5.4.978 ("2639 Fixed bookmarks are lost on iPod synchronization", I thought I should report this.
I have an iPod Shuffle that I use for podcasts. I synchronize it using MM 2.5.4.978. This usually deletes a couple of files and copies over a couple new ones. It always loses my place in the track that remains on the Shuffle.
For example, last night, I had three podcasts on the Shuffle. I had finished two and listened to about 10 minutes of the third one. I have a playlist that I use to sync with the Shuffle. I deleted the two completed tracks, leaving the third one. Then I added a new track to the playlist. I connected the Shuffle, which automatically starts synch. MM prompted me to delete the two tracks, which I confirmed. Then it copied over the new track. When I turned on the Shuffle (in non-shuffle mode), the track I had listened to 10 mins of was back at the beginning.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you for your time.

You are right, this wasn't fixed for iPod Shuffle because it uses completely different database. A fixed iPod dll is uploaded to
http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/d_iPod.dll
Please let us know if it works well for you...

I'm afraid it didn't work. My bookmark was reset.

Have you tried first to update iPod and only then to play some tracks and test bookmarks? I.e. it doesn't work with tracks synchronized by the previous version of MM, you have to use the new dll.

Ah, no, I hadn't done that. I'll try that tonight and post tomorrow.

Okay, it did remember a bookmark, but it was in the wrong place--it was at least 10 minutes further into the podcast than it should've been.

Ok, the fix probably worked only with tracks having bitrate = 128. There is an updated version uploaded again to
http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/d_iPod.dll , now it should work with all tracks just fine.

Here's what I did. I've got two tracks (podcasts) on my Shuffle that I synced with the older beta version. I had started listening to track 1.
I downloaded the new beta version. I sync'd again, which didn't transfer any tracks, of course. My place in track 1 was saved. I started listening to track 2.
Remembering what you said about having to first sync with the new beta DLL, I added some songs and sync'd again. My place in track 2 was saved, but my place on track 1 was lost. I think this is probably because it had been "saved" with the old DLL?
Anyway, tonight, I'll sync yet again and see if both of my places on both tracks are saved.

Well, better clear your iPod first from any tracks, these several versions you have tested could have made some mess in bookmarks, on a clean set of tracks it should work fine (hopefully...

).
Btw, in MM 3.0 bookmarks will be preserved also in MM, e.g. it will be possible to listen to tracks both in MM and iPod, always at the correct position.

Final(?) update: I cleared out all the tracks, sync'ed, added tracks again, sync'ed, played some, sync'd --bookmark stayed--, finished a track, played another, deleted finished one, added more, sync'd --bookmark stayed.
So, I think we can call this a success. Thank you!
I look forward to MM 3, which will justify my purchase of the Lifetime license.

P.S. On Windows XP, this DLL (Dec 18 version) causes MM to display the following message box when I connect a 1st gen Shuffle:
Exception EOleError in module d_iPod.dll at 00020810

I possibly don't understand - it originally worked, but now it doesn't? Is it on the same machine? Do you use the same version of MM?

Yes, same version of MM (2.5.4). I got a new machine which has XP (SP2). My old machine (where it worked) was 2000 SP4.

Could you try the latest MM 2.5.5 RC (from beta forum)? There are probably somehow mixed versions of MM and dll, the latest version should be perfectly ok.

I'm back. I'm running 2.5.5.998, which AFAIK is the latest version of MM. And, although it was fixed in earlier versions, MM is losing my place again. (I don't want to say "bookmark" because, as I understand it, that's a specific feature.)
Here's the scenario.
1. I delete everything from my iPod Shuffle (1st gen). (Nothing in MM playlist I sync with. Double-check MM's file list of my Shuffle--nothing there.)
2. I sync two Podcast (genre = "Podcast") tracks and one Pop (genre = "Pop") track to my Shuffle.
3. I play one of the Podcast tracks for about 10-15 seconds. (Other times, I've played more than 15-20 minutes and it's lost its place.)
4. I sync the Shuffle again. (Nothing's transferred.)
5. I play the Shuffle again. I'm at the beginning of the Podcast, instead of 10-15 seconds in.
Is this a known issue? Should it act like this? If so, I'd really really really like to see the ability for my Shuffle to keep its place between syncs. Losing my place 35 minutes into an hour-long podcast is very very annoying.
