Skin Request! Vista-like, glossy skins!

Calling all skinners out there... how about some skins to go with the new operating sytem coming out next month?

A glossy, sleek black skin would match perfectly with the new taskbar while a glossy ... milky white skin would provide a contrast to the taskbar and would look cool as hell (think... black/white ipods).

I wish I knew how to skin and had enough free time to do so... hopefully you guys in better situations (and more ability) than me would be able to make this idea come to life.

Thanks for looking!

there is a black monkey skin.

and there are a few skins that are whiteish in color.

but we are all waiting it seems for the new way of skinng to come out before any one starts making new skins.

i believe as i said in another message that the main shell skin will be the same but the player skin is going to change.

although i am not sure.

I know there are skins that are black or white in color... but i'm talking in a style similar to WM11 or songbird...

It's all personal to each individuals taste, but on this one, I vote with rovingcowboy! :o

Besides that is a big ask to make "glossy" skins - that's a lot of work, I am working on skins at the moment but they do take a fair chunk of time (which I have precious little of at present)

I am hopeful v3.0 will make it all a bit more user friendly, but from what I have read theming may remain the same, the player though, may be more configurable - just have to wait and see I guess :-?

Afaik, MM 3.0 will not change the skinning (except for the internal player). So there's no need to expect special things, or "wait to see".

As most people, I prefer skins that are easy on the eyes (with not too much bright colors). Most existing MM skins are like that, but we all know that there are way too few MM skins.
Prove for "as most people" can be seen by simply looking to other programs (Windows Vista, CrystalXP, IE7, WMP, iTunes, JRiverMC, ...). A program developer wouldn't get very far if he only accounts for his personal preferences or ways of seeing things. These programs clearly look at what their customers like most (at least for the moment).

The "glossy" style, of course, is just a fashion (watch what it will be in 5 years...). The easy-color style is universally most liked and will always remain the most appreciated (this is something psychological...).

So I mean, "personal preference" answers to questions/wishes like these is completely useless and out-of-question.
Skins like the ones TheBachellor proposes would certainly be well-tasted by the broad audience, including me (but hey, personal preferences are out-of-question, as I already noted).

Cheers
Steegy

Hmm, yeah, I know. I probably wan't very awake anymore (ah, there you go, 1:48am 8))

The point I want to make is that the 2 "I don't like that" posts (that previously were the only comments on this thread) aren't representative for the opinion of the broad audience at all. In contradiction to what this thread feels like, there really is a need for the kind of skins that TheBachellor means.

So, I know that everyone is very busy these days, but anyone making such a skin would be very welcomed. A lot of people (but clearly not all) would like it, so certainly don't feel discouraged.

yep i thought got to admit i did look at that skin when i got the wmp 11.

but it was all black and was looking like a tv frame.

then i thought how would you get that wide border in the list view to work?

i might have tried to make one if they had some sort of animal on it or some different colors. but that one color and that wide frame which i can't figure how to make turned me off of the skin.

yes i remember saying i was not going to get wmp 11  but my wmp10 got messed up. :o

i also took the message title to mind and answered as just one of the skinners for monkey. with the IMHO answer. 8)

you all know my choice of skin for monkey? its big and green and has lots of monkeys on it. ha ha ha  :P

It's useful to comment on features for MediaMonkey if you don't like them as these features will affect all. It isn't useful to comment on skins and scripts that they are not useful as you have the choice to install them. I'm very sure that MediaMonkey will be better received with a glossy "Vista" skin. I myself am happy with the standard skin.
I hope people can collaborate on this project so that MediaMonkey can have a high quality glossy skin available. Also other types of skins are welcome as MediaMonkey lacks skins at this point to meet all the different personal tastes of it's users.

@ Steegy

I wasn't speaking for the "broad audience" of this forum at all, but you seem to be saying that you are?

@ Lowlander

"It isn't useful to comment on skins and scripts"
what! then you comment "I myself am happy with the standard skin"

<Edited> :)
edited to put a smiley in, didn't mean this to sound as grumpy as it did, but feeling a little jumped on by your responses here

Maybe I'm misunderstood, I really hope that this glossy skin gets developed. Also other skins should be developed.

My point was that despite that I find the standard skin is fine for me that I fully support any new skin development as I believe it will make MediaMonkey even better.

i kind of like the green if you can put a green bordor around it that might look cool with the smaller border of the skin?
