On Sync, why does MM copy files that already exist on iPOD?

I asked a question similar to this in another thread that has gone unanswered.
I purchased a MM Gold Lifetime license if this matters to anyone.
If I'm syncing anything (playlists, albums, tracks, whatever) from my library to my iPOD, shouldn't MM skip files that are already on the target device? If a file has already benn synced, why on earth would MM want to waste the time syncing it again?
I want to copy a 2500+ track playlist to my iPOD for which ALL of the tracks are already on the iPOD. How can I tell MM to just skip the tracks that are already there? There must be a way, no?

MM should be skipping the tracks that are already on your ipod. If it is re-writing the files, it usually means you changed them in some way. i'm not sure why all the files would be recopied on a sync, this doesn't occur with my ipod.

Yeah the tracks must be changed somehow.
If it were me, Id just clean out the ipod and let MM sync it all itself. From then on it wont want to sync the whole list again, just whatever is added.

Honestly, I haven't touched the files in any way.
Are you sure this is true when sycning from an imported .M3U playlist?
What about when using auto-convert to downgrade the bit rate on sync?
I re-ran sync from a playlist that I had JUST transferred and MM started to reconvert and copy EACH file all over again. Nothing had been changed to the source files in between syncs.
Perhaps it has to do with the Synchronization Options I set for the iPOD? Mine is currently set to Synchronize tracks to: <Artist> - <Title> which was the default. Should I be using something else?
I really would rather not have to start all over just to test. It took over 24 hours just for one playlist to sync (due to auto-convert).

Hmm, yeah Ive never imported a list and I dont use auto-conversion, so I cant say for sure. I can understand not wanting to test it if it takes that long.
What if you just tested it by syncing a second playlist with only like 4-5 songs on it? It shouldnt take as long, and youll be able to figure out what is happening, and if it will happen everytime.

I'm having a similar issue to this with my Nano 6G. Some weeks ago I wiped the iPod using someone's iTunes, then re-started the sync list. I play some songs; I connect and scan the info; I disconnect. I haven't changed the list since making it.
I just connected the iPod after some plays over the past couple days, let it scan, and then sync'd. I watched the status bar to see what was "copied". Some of the tracks had recently been updated on the computer; others haven't been played, or edited, or given new artwork: not touched or heard at all. I think the "copies" were all actually updates; they seemed to go faster than adding new tracks. (It would be nice if the status bar could show "Updating" instead of "Copying" when that's what's happening.) Is there a sync log available?
I tried to test whether last.fm playcount importer could have affected this, but I got a crash when I tried to sync after running the importer. I had the debugger version running, but the error was not caught and kicked back to Windows: "MediaMonkey has stopped running" with a Close Program option.

Are you auto-syncing, I don't think you say? That's the only way MM will "detect" tracks already on the device and not sync and the only way it will sync changes.
I have a 160g Classic with over 100g of music and even if I only add one song, by always auto-syncing MM knows what to do. Works the same on my iPhone and 4 Sansa Clips.

Yes mcow it is copying updates, so it is still copying i think its impossible for mm to know if the song is an update or a new song added to the list, so it is only possible to say copying.
Yes rrfpacker in the link he gave it shows the auto sync options panel so i believe he is auto sync'ing
