MM installed on ext hdd?

Hi again all..
Is it possible to install MM on an ext hdd? So I could take the ext hdd to friends houses etc.
Or does the local computer need MM installed?
Another reason for this question is having more computers. Each computer at the moment needs MM installed and I have to add/rescan to all computers every time I update my collection.
If MM could be installed on the ext hdd, which is where my music is too, I could simply use the usb to use MM and my music from any source.
Also take to friends houses for parties etc without the need for installing MM on their machines.
At the moment I use my laptop and ext hdd and take it with me, but as I said, with more than 1 computer at home I wont need to add/rescan all computers...

Is this possible?

Yes, I have it installed on an external harddrive so I can play my music at work and at home. Just install it on the harddrive, then move the .ini file from your my music folder to your program files folder. In the .ini file add under the "[System]" heading...

DBName=F:\.....

...or whatever your path to the .mdb file is (somewhere on your external harddrive. Now when you run the executable it will be running off your drive. The only settings that are stored in the registry (therefore you cannot take with you) are the layout ones - but that's not a bit problem.

TIP: Make sure you deselect the file associations in the options because your friends won't be happy when all their MP3s become associated with a program on your external harddrive!! :)

Mmm I have the same problem and I'm not sure I've understand everything.
When you said move the ini. file in your Program files folder, you mean the installation folder of MM in your ext drive, isn't it ?

Cheers,

Sorry for sounding stupid, but I can't see the .ini file. I have a .mbd a .ldb
and 4 others that are mm, virtual cd etc. Could you explain in a little more detail for me please.

Search the FAQ, there's details about moving the INI file in there.
