Text Alignment [4031]

In both views of the library that have lots of text, the text fields are all Left-aligned, while the numeric ones are right-aligned.
This is irritating to me, as the default sits Date next to Genre, making it look like it says, say "2007Metal".
It there an option I'm missing? I'm aware this is the default in things like Excel, but honestly, it's ugly.

I think right aligned makes more sense since it gives you the ability to narrow the column's width to only show the year (and hide the date).

Well, then like any other argument that comes down to why groups, make it a toggle.

My comment was based on wishful thinking. As you point out, MM doesn't in fact truncate the dates from the left.
Best idea for now would be to leave the column a bit wider.
For the longer term, I'd appreciate some input. We're not clear on the best approach since there are multiple conflicting agendas:
-it needs to work in multiple locales
-it should meet the needs of podcasts--where the full date is important
-it should look good

we still dont have an answer to the date alignment ,i would like a narrow date column but showing years only , if a song has a full date in its tag it will not display year when narrowed.

I think the problem here is that MM relies on the short date format in the computer's regional settings for display. I actually had to change mine to something that I could live with in MM, i.e. dd-MM-yyyy. It was something else originally, dd-MMM-yy, I believe, and I just didn't like the way that looked. It only occurred to me after some initial fiddling with MM's options and finding nothing pertinent that the program might be using my default date display settings.
If you switch your short date format to yyyy-MM-dd, this will allow you to collapse the column down to the 4 digit year, although it will still show ellipses indicating there is hidden information. Of course, this will affect any other programs that use your regional settings to display short dates, but it does work. The downside to this is that if you have only yyyy in some items, they won't be aligned properly.
