Is it possible to have more than 1 database? I have my music library and I also have audio books and other instructional audio material and would like to manage them separately.

Yes, but it isn't a great solution in MediaMonkey. You will need to get Onkel_Enno's database switcher script. See for more in this topic.

Through MediaMonkey 3's filters and using Genre's or Custom field it shouldn't be a problem just managing one library instead of various.

I too want to manage separate databases. For example I have a collection of Christmas songs on an ext HDD. I do NOT want these festive songs in my everyday MM database library.

How can I use MM3, and have a main database library, AND a separate Christmas Collection database library..??

Not to pile onto MusicBringer's request (I have the Christmas issue, too), but what about separate databases with different settings? For pop, entertaining, etc the Crossfade option and removing the silence between tracks in MM3 is great. In classical, they're precisely the wrong settings. I don't mind reorganizing the classical out of my standard database, but will I need two MMs with different settings? I haven't found anything that allows for different playback options per database, so what would be the best way to go about all this? Or (given what you guys have done already in MM3, which rocks) am I looking at MM4? Damn, us users are SO greedy... thx for your patience.

i dont think you can use different databases. unless you use mm 2 and mm 3.
but when mm 3 is final it will overinstall the mm 2 version.

as for the crossfading not working for classical but can work for other styles.
try the settings of the direct sound output plugin that media monkey developers made. i think there is a thresholed setting there that might help.
:-?

This is exactly what the Filter feature in MM3 is built for. You can configure how filters play back music in the options, with crossfading on/off and bookmarking also enabled or disabled. Simply make one filter with all your music besides classical, and another filter with classical only. Its a "Gold" feature, but well worth the cost IMO.

Now I know another reason I'm glad I paid for Gold! Thanks for the help.

I looked into that thread discussion and it gave me and idea. Can you setup MM so that it loads a different .ini file on startup? Some programs accept command line parameters and it would be a simple manner of setting up a different shortcut. Very easy to do really. That way I could have two (or more) shortcuts each pointing to it's own .ini file (which in turn points to a different database).

Modifying the program so that it accepts this command line parameter is would be very easy as well. So it gives a solution with minimal costs.

Just make a Christmas filter, and only display that filter when you want to listen to Christmas music. Seems like a perfectly simple solution to me!

Or you can just do what I did and make a Christmas (or Seasonal) playlist... for those that don't have the sacred Gold features. :D

I don't think you can load a different ini at startup. Although some application that has a repository of ini files, then copies the user selected to the MediaMonkey directory and then starts MediaMonkey would probably do the trick. This solution doesn't exist, but could be created by someone who is willing.
