I have just done a little further testing and have found that the reason my computer has not been going into hibernation when left unused for a period of time is that MM is running.

A while ago, I asked for a feature whereby MM could prevent the screensaver and powersave options from activating to be put on the wish list, but it seems that the current action is some kind of horrible hybrid. Ideally, MM would be able to prevent the screensaver and powersave actions from activating while MM was actually playing music (as opposed to just running but not playing). However, the current situation is that it prevents the powersave - but not screensaver - from activating at any time when MM is running, regardless of whether or not it is playing music.

This is a little silly, as it means that the screensaver can activate, blanking the screen when MM is playing music. this is quite annoying for me, as I used to use Windows MediaPlayer's feature to keep my screen active whilst doing research which involved using the computer every now and then. Because I have the screensaver set to request a password, it is a little irritating to have to enter this every time you want to resume use of the computer. However, when I stopped MediaPlayer playing music (but the program itself was still running), the screensaver was able to kick in, locking the computer - i.e. if I went away from it. The powersave options were also disabled/enabled in the same way as the screensaver, so if I left my computer for a prolonged period then it would hibernate.

If MM were able to sort this out, it would be very much appreciated. In the meantime, a simple disabling of whatever it is that prevents my computer from hibernating after prolonged inactivity would be brilliant!

Was MM Paused or Stopped?

I've tried both. It doesn't seem to make any difference. I suppose ideally (and I may be well into the realms of fantasy here!) that when MM is paused, the screensaver is permitted but not powersave (standy/hibernate etc), but when MM is stopped, both screensaver and powersave are permitted.

Or, even more ideally, the user can specify through the Options panel what they want MM to enable/disable in various states (playing/paused/stopped etc)!

Peke tested this and it is working correctly at our end. Do you have the File Monitor or Auto-DJ active? If so could you try disabling and see if that has any effect?

Edit: Peke confirms that File Monitor can interfere with hibernation. We'll look into this post 3.0

No, I don't have either the Auto-DJ or File Monitor running.

If it works fine at your end, I'm not sure what's causing it..!

I'm now on the released version of MM3 (v. 3.0.1.1127), and am still finding that MM is preventing my computer going into hibernation.

I also have a new computer running Vista (Ultimate) and have the same problem on that. I think that at times MM is even stopping the screen being turned off (but not preventing the screensaver). This happens whether or not MM is actually playing music - it only needs to be open. If I close MM down and leave the either of the computers alone again, they will happily go into hibernation after a while.

Not sure what's causing this, but it is a little annoying!

Same here with 1129. PC wont sleep etc if MM is open. STOPPED and inactive. ASUS P5B plus Mboard. Vista Ultimate.

We haven't been able to reproduce such a problem. Some possible reasons:
- Aren't you in the Party mode of MM?
- Don't you have some portable devices connected? (Possibly try to remove d_WMDM.dll plug-in to test this)
- Try to remove all other plug-ins or scripts.

Sorry, my mistake. I had also adjusted the Power Saving Options in Vista to allow Hybrid Sleep Mode - which appears in itself to have disabled the entire Power Management!! So it was actually Vista's PM stopping Vista's PM. Go Figure!

However, I believe I still have part of the problem under XP - the monitor can be turned off, but the machine will not hibernate automatically. I will be fiddling with this again soon and will let you know for definite.

Not in party mode. Not playing anything.
I do have other devices connected... but not active. Eg. Camera maybe still attached... but asleep. PDA - also asleep. But I'll test without and see . Just put 1131 in place.

All seems to be fine under Vista now - the computer will go off to sleep after a while. It turned out that it was actually Outlook checking emails that was causing it to stay awake! I had originally discounted that as an option, as it was not an issue with the same settings under XP.

I have been trying to test the issue on my XP system, but not been able to get anywhere with it as yet, as it has decided to stop hibernating automatically altogether at the moment! Not sure why, as I haven't altered any settings or anything! Once it is back to normal (and I have the time!), then I'll re-test it.
