automatic file rename: how to get rid of umlauts?

Hi,
I have the following situation: I'm syncing my music folder with RSync from my home to my office computer. This sync has problems with umlauts in folder- and filenames.
Is there a way to have the file rename feature in MM automitcally convert umlauts (ä, ö, ü and so on) to replacement chars (like a "_")?

Have not tried this and do not know if it is what you need. But, have a look at this thread:
RegExp Find & Replace
If that does not work for you, search through the script forum - there is most likely something there that can do what you want.

IME programs that have problems with umlauts do also with any non-ASCII chars e.g. á , so while you're fixing your filenames, you might want to remove all non-ASCII. Whetever fix you apply, you might want to also test first that MM correctly adjusts your playlists.

a lot of work (and may not work 100%) especially if you use some scripts that modify paths\filenames
mediamonkey.ini
you could add all the hex values and replacement values e.g. E4=61 or E4=5F
Code: Select all
[FilenameMappings]
3A=2D
2A=2D
3F=
3E=2D
3C=2D
22=27
7C=2D
2F=2D
E4=61

thanks, that mediamonkey.ini setting seems to be what I looked for.
