Beta 2 ( 2.3.1.826 )
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
My computer does not struggle with other programs ( since most of this post is about my computer "freezeing" for a while ) 3 gig p4 1 gig ram, pretty fast hard drives.
It appears that Auto Organize files does a lot of work if you choose to auto organize lots of files. If I select 1000 songs nad auto organize them it will take a long time, and the program will freeze up for that time and I do not see the extra bar at the bottom of the program where it shows the progress, however i do get this bar in other functions ( unlike previous versions where the program would run fine while it auto organized ). Also, if none of the 1000 songs have new file names it still takes forever to process them when I hit "ok" ( i understand why it still takes a long time to load the "auto organize" screen. Sometimes the program never comes back and will actually go "not responding", however I cannot re-create it so this happends every time ( although when auto organizing lots of files it does always freeze for at least a bit of time ).
Toggling "modify" on this screen also takes a LONG time, about 3 seconds to toggle 1 checkbox on/off. Again this only happends when LOTS ( i have 2000 ) of files are being added, but it seems like a checkbox shouldnt be dependent on that.
I also do not get the progress bar when doing "auto tag from filename" and i get the same feeling where the program seems to "freeze" but really it is just doing all the work and not letting me do anything else. EDIT This freeze is only for a short period of time, it appears to me that MM updates the tags in its library, and then puts them in a queue to update the actual file. I thought there used to be what i will call a "multi tasking bar" to do this in the past and now i guess it gets its own little place in the status bar. I do however still get the initial "freeze" for a good portion of a minute when i first say Okay to updating the tags. It would be nice if there was a window with a status bar for the initial renaming ( when the program seems to freeze ) so that users do not get scared the program crashed.
selecting multiple files, then going to properties, not changing anything, and then hitting okay also takes a long time even though nothing was changed. ( depending on how/if you fix this, the same thing happends going to properties -> auto tag from filename -> okay, ...Wait for tag... hit okay on properties dialog ( now there is still a long wait even though all changes have completed ).
there is weird space displaying when i have the tree navigation toolbar. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/drewwarren/space.jpg white space around the toolbar looks weird.
when u hit delete on a track in your library the box defaults to having "delete from library and my computer" selected. It would be nice if there was an option to choose which is selected by default, and even nicer if there was an additional option to that which will always do your chosen action in the future.
very often when I right click a single file and go to properties, then hit okay I get this error... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/drewwarren/error.jpg
It happends both in the library and now playing. It only happends when you have ONE song selected, and the only time it will happen in now playing is if the tag information is displayed ( when u load MM it takes some time to load all the tag information, shows up blank at first )
extra request:
An option to NOT save album art when tagging from amazon, in fact it would be nice if we can choose which fields we want from amazon and which we do not.
and finally
Thanks for an Amazing program, I really appreciate all the work you guys put into it.

Re: Auto organize files takes longer than usual +MORE
I don't believe this is a beta specific problem. It seems to be the way MM does the Auto Organize for large numbers of files, which I have learned to avoid. I don't need to Auto Organize that much now that all of my files are arranged. Like you've noticed, it seems like MM is frozen but it is actually working in the background. I too would like to see a progress bar.Drew wrote:It appears that Auto Organize files does a lot of work if you choose to auto organize lots of files. In the next release the basic actions of auto-organization (checking/unchecking/changing mask) will be much faster. As for a progress indicator, it might appear in the future.

If you can reproduce it, please generate a debug log (as described in top of this forum).very often when I right click a single file and go to properties, then hit okay I get this error... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/drewwarren/error.jpg

@ Drew & Jiri, this sounds like the same problem as described here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3064

Drew,
I just wanted to point out to you that when getting tag info from amazon, there are check boxes next to the different areas (eg. There is one next to the album art) which means you can select what info you want to download into your tag.
hope this helps
