1193 Auto-sync not deleting removed playlists

My auto-sync to a USB device is not deleting from the device previously-synced playlists that have since been removed from the auto-sync list.
Has anyone got this to work? What's the trick?
FWIW, I have '[X] Delete Tracks that aren't on the Auto-Sync list from the device'.
