[since 1256] - popup "Cannot open clipboard" [#6050]

In various situations (e.g. deselecting a song, minimizing MM etc.) I get a "cannot open clipboard" popup that shows the current song title & artist in the popup window title bar. Difficult to reproduce, but I remember having seen that before once or twice in previous betas.

Anyone experiencing the same?

No, I've never seen this. Anything that can consistently reproduce it?

I just got this, and I'm using the latest 3.1 RELEASE (not beta).

I was able to produce this error by accidentally pasting from my clipboard after copying css text that I meant to paste elsewhere.

now I can't get it to stop! It won't play, won't do anything! argh...

gonna try reinstalling...

Where did you paste the text to?

Just a short note: I experienced this popup several times before posting the original message, but never as bad as SelArom. I was always able to close the single message popup by saying "ok" and that was it.

Unfortunately, after installing the debug version to get more details about the root cause I was never able to reproduce it again, so I didn't post here again.

Googling for that error message I read that (different software, different circumstances) people got a similar message when the clipboard was locked or contained too much data. Don't know if that helps.

I pasted the text onto the main mediamonkey window (I alt-tabbed, then pasted, thinking I was in visual studio)

I shut down for the weekend and came back this morning, launched mm and all is well, so it does look like it was some kind of lock with the clipboard contents. I did try clearing the clipboard and copying other stuff at the time, however nothing seems to have worked other than the fresh boot.

if it happens again I'll be sure to post again!

thanks

Just sent two debug logs online. First error occurence: I was deleting some selected songs from Now Playing. Second occurence: retagging genre & mood of some songs (seemed to have finished telling by the GUI)and activating the Now Playing list by single mouse click.

Here's also a debug log from the second error:

Hello,
I'm affected by this problem, too. is there a solution, already?

I was hoping this would be addressed in the next (current) beta cycle, but it doesn't look like it. I couldn't find this bug in mantis, could someone please add this? I still get the error in 1267. Thanks.

I can't add this to Mantis without a clear set of steps to reproduce the problem. If someone can provide them, I'll be happy to open a new bug.

Can you two send me PM with email addresses that are used to send Automatic Debug log to us so that we can search for them?

@hintergrundrauschen
BTW from Log I wonder why you have chosen Application Path "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\user\MediaMonkey3" instead of default ?

OK I understand, but unfortunately I can't provide a clear set of steps to reproduce the problem, seems to be very situational. I got this problem quite often in the previous beta cycle (several times a day, starting with 1256, never (!) before), now very infrequently. I thought it had something to do with an overfilled or temporary locked clipboard, but that was just a wild guess. Sometimes I was able to repeat the error once again by doing the same thing, but not often - so it seems to be a situational thing. Maybe other software locks up the clipboard?!

I was hoping you might be able to get an insight from the error message text or the debug logs...

Good question - I'm not really sure  maybe some stupid decision back from the time I had versions 2 and 3 installed simultaneously.

Thanks for your replies.

I was able to reproduce this by pasting a large amount of text/urls into the search bar.

Tracked at:

Thanks!

It's marked as "fixed" for 1275 but still get the error message - right after installing 1275, playing a song and removing some files from now playing. Sorry! :-?

So I guess if you fixed something and can't reproduce it any more then this is a different / more complex problem  BTW I didn't paste anything in the search box.
