Sync with filters!?

Hello, fellow Monkeys! :)

I have an iPod Touch and I want to sync my .mp3s with it.. so, to do this, I've added the "iPod Touch 32GB" label in the custom 5 field, and made an filter which only selects these files..

So, when I go to the device options, and my iPod options, and the Music tab, I choose the "iPod Touch 32GB" filter.. Then I can only check ONE square, and this box includes ALL "Location", "Artist & Album Artist" and "Album" folders .. so, of course, when I check that box ALL of my music is to be added when synced, and that's not what I want..

My question; How can I easily(!) make it to sync all the "flagged" .mp3s!? It should be an easy way .. (I know of the playlist option, but I want to use filters, it would be a LOT better, for me..)

Thank you very muck! :)

The filters don't work with the sync list, you'll have to use an autoplaylist.

You should be able to open up the All Music tree, and then the sub-trees and check only the Artists/Locations/etc that you want. However, using filters is not the solution here, due to the logic applied to them when it comes to syncing. The filter doesn't filter the tracks, only the nodes. Thus, if you have a track by James Brown that matches the filter, the James Brown node will be shown. If you check it, then it will add all James Brown tracks.

You should use Auto-Playlists. The criteria works similar to that of Filters. Just sync the playlist, and then it will put all the tracks matching the criteria on there. If the Touch works similar to the Nano, then it should still show the tracks under Artist 'nodes' or Album 'nodes' and such like usual. You would just have an extra playlist on your device, but wouldn't need to use it.

Thank you for your response!

Yes, the "James Brown" -example was my experience too.. :(

I'll just have to use playlists, though.. Just wanted to use the filter mode, cause it's easier for me to see if the album is included to be synced or not (by just temporary adding the custom5 tab..) ..

Anyone know if this "problem" is to be solved sometime soon!?

Again, thanks! :)

What do you mean by this? Are you perhaps speaking of Columns? Filters and Auto-Playlists don't function too differently. You can set up an auto-playlist that includes (or excludes) files based on the content of the Custom 5 field for instance.

Yes, sorry.. I meant the column.. (didn't remember the name of it)

How do you set up auto-playlist according to the custom 5 node?

Thank you! :)
