Let us choose what track gets played next in now playing

Post by DocZoidberg »

Please add some action (perhapse to the context menu) that lets us change the next song that gets played from the now playing list.

Now the songs get played top down, we can randomize the list and we can
just doubleclick another track that will then immediately start and position in the now playing list will change to that song.
What i want is that i can just mark one song for beeing played next and i dont want to change the order of the now playing list for that or reenqueue the song from the library. Would be nice to have both possibilities after the song not beeing next in now playing has been played for next song.
First would be to return to the song that would have been played normally.
Second is going to the song after the one that has just been played out of the now playing order.

DocZoidberg,
Well there is one non documented feature that will allow you to add selected Track in Now Playing next without readding it from library.

Here is example:
You have for example 200 Tracks in now playing and you are playing 23rd, but while browsing Now playing you noticed that you want 94th track to be played after 23rd and as 94th.
With Context it is not possible currently but if you add this script to MM Scripts Auto Folder you'll get 'Play Next & 'Play Last' Becide 'Play Now'

I oppened New Topic in Scripts and Componets Forum
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4722

With hope that it will solve your problem

Thx Peke. The script works fine except the fact that after doing play next a few times i will end up with lots of duplicates in my now playing list.
Perhapse you know how to get around this problem. I will start looking into MMs scripting capabilities and perhapse can add more to the script.

Again thx for coming up with the right script that fast.

Thx, it is just simple script which can be used and expandable with various functions.
Like "Move selected for playing as next tracks" or "Move selected for playing as last tracks" but if we continue here it will be off topic. It is better that we swich to Scripts forum.

Rube Goldberg

Rube Goldberg

I'm dragging Rube Goldberg into this. You guys seem to think of the Now Playing list as something else than what it is now. It is a "Now Playing" list which means that songs which are queued up in this list will be played in the order they appear in the list. You guys can create separate playlists stored as m3u/pls if you want to keep songslists for later. Don't make it anymore complicated than what it is already. DrO (an active Winamp plug-in developer) made somethign called Jump To File Extra which is a modification of the Jump To File dialog in Winamp to allow for enqueing of songs in the playlist just as this topic is requesting in Media Monkey. I personally never use this feeature cos I just drag one song from the Media Library into the playlist editor when I want to enqueue a song. This is what the "Enqueue" action on the explorer context menu does as well.
So please don't turn Media monkey into a Rube Goldberg device. Winamp is already on the way to become this.

It's not my problem that your brains are wired this difficult. Try to think differently instead of demanding an application to become elaborate and loose it's simplicity.

He this is just a script. No one is forcing you to use it.
if you like your MM the way it is just dont use the script.
The MM team will no doubt check if new features are wanted by the majority or just by a bunch of people with extra needs. So if the feature will become an integrated part of MM it will be either optional or most of the users would like to have it. In this case perhapse you would have to adapt to the way it then works instead of telling people whats best for them. Dont you think that we would still all work with DOS if we just leave software the way it is? And i'm the last who would say that a feature has to be in MM or not. Just what i wrote 4 or 5 times in my feature ideas just make things optional so people can decide if they need the featore or not.
Of course the default settings should be working in a way MM remains intuitive and works for most users out of the box.

I think this is a good idea since i switched from winamp to MM for its superior organizing abilities and the overall better handling.
However, i really would like to see a feature like the 'enqueue'-function in MM. something like a meta-playlist...
i mean, for a program that calls itself 'The Ultimate Music Manager' this is almost essential in my opinion... for casual DJing at least...

Can you elaborate little bit more?
Where exactly you need "enqueue" Function?

some people already brought this up. for example i have some tracks loaded in Now Playing, a specific playlist for instance and playback is on shuffle.
now i browse through my library and find a track that would match the currently playing song.
now i select the song in the library window, click on enqueue, and then, regardless of the position of the song inside 'now playing', after the current song ends, the enqueued song is played. after that shuffled play of the content of 'now playing' continues.

in short: i want a 'play next' that doesn't simply move a specific song under the currently playing one, (because with shuffle on, this has no effect), but rather plays it after that. this should be possible for multiple tracks, too.

okay, i reread the posts above, especially saivert's.
what i wanted was a 'play next' function that works with shuffle on.
because i find it kind of unnnerving to randomize my 'now playing' and be able to see what's going to be played... because then it would be random, yes, but not as unpredictable as real shuffle mode.

I know that this thread is quite old but I can't seem to find a solution yet.
Are there any news on this?

I looked through the developer documentation but there does not seem to be an easy way to simulate the Winamp behaviour with a script as you cannot modify which track is played next either.

I really love MM but this the only feature I really really miss from Winamp.

Hey there,

I know this tread is very old, but does anyone know if this enqueue-feature is adde to MM in some way allready? Like people said before me, it's a (imo) essential feature for a media player and kinda the only thing i miss in MM.

Hope someone reads this and could give some info.

Thnx,
