I would very much appreciate if the rating would take place like in iTunes or Musicmatch: Simply click into a bar of stars instead of opening up a value list.

Right click on the song->My Rating-> And there you have it!

of course it is possible this way, also directly in the list if you have the column 'rating' visible, but it is always 2-3 clicks and/or mouse moves! With some delay before opening up those additional windows!

Compare this to the possibility of having a rating column in the list where you can set the rating with one well-directed click!

This rating thing is actually the only things where it was hard for me to give up iTunes!

if it would work like rk described it, it would be more user friendly.
would be a nice feature, but not top-priority.

anyhow this would be a great feature to an excellent product

windows media player and jriver are some examples where you just hover over the rating stars and they highlight.. then it only takes a single click to rate

If you add the categorize toolbar (view - toolbars - cateorize) rating songs becomes much easier, just highlight and choose.

But that toolbar does not work in the playlist mode (where you just have the playlist in MM).

Furthermore it still is 2 clicks more work than the "hover" solution (select song, open popup, select rating vs. just select rating).

just wondering what you guys think is the best method for star-rating. b/c it does get tedious to wait for that pulldown menu to appear. Do you know if the new beta will have a feature like a hover and click star-rating?

What about being able to click right into the rating-column?

Here is just my opinion and I'm not meaning to have a go at or offend anyone.

Isn't it a little lazy if its too hard to do 2 or 3 clicks or mouse movements. I personally think its just as easy right clicking on the song, going to ratings and selecting the amount of stars.

I'm sure the dev team have higher priorities.

Its not laziness that makes people want this feature its efficiency.
If you think about it, a single aimed click like the interface being suggested is probably five times faster than the current rating scheme. This isn't a big deal when your talking about fractions of a second, but if you have a hundred songs that would take say five minutes to rate it would now only take one. If you had a thousand songs the improvement is even more dramatic.

Would love this too.

It should be faster the rating drop down display then it currently is.

it would be fastest without any drop down /grin

I think this is how windows media player does it (without a drop down just click a star directly)
