If I want to compact the database I get the following message:
"Problem with compacting: Class not registered".

I use XP Pro/Office XP Pro, compacting in Access is no problem. Still, the unregistered class points, to my opinion, to a database prblem, rather than the set up of my system.

It is most likely caused by damaged MDAC/Jet installation, you can try to reinstall them (checkout readme file if you aren't sure where to find them), it could help.

:o , two questions:
1 MM is most unlikely the only user of this MDA/Jet. So how can I check if MDA/Jet is the problem (which apllications))?
2 On MicroSoft Downloads are 19 updates, where do I find the correct new installation?

1. Due to the message I can say quite for sure that it's problem in MDAC/Jet installation.

2. Try to install the very latest versions of both.

Have installed MDAC 2.7 SP1 Refresh. But problem is the same. Go and find Jet now. But again, question: is your analys of the problem consistent with the fact that Access (Office XP Pro, legal version) compresses MM- mbd file without probs, nor does MM has a problem with this, new, MM-mbd. Nor does conversion to Access 97 or Access 2002 effect any of MM's operations.

Kind regards,

Definitely install the latest MS Jet, I think it could help. The fact that MS Access works well isn't directly related to this, I suppose no other non-MS application would work well on your machine until the problem is resolved.
