1342: "The color scheme has been changed" (Vista Aero)

The color scheme has been changed

The following program has performed an action that requires Windows to temporarily change the color scheme to Windows Vista Basic.

Program: MediaMonkey - Audio Library
Publisher: Ventis Media, Inc.
Process Identifier (PID): 6524

Windows will automatically change the color scheme back to Windows Vista Aero when this program or other programs performing similar actions are no longer running.
There have been various reports of this occurring before, with version 3.x by other users. However, I believe those reports have MM always causing this to occur. That's not the case for me, and I've never had this occur with 3.x. The weird part about it is, you know what the action (seems to be) that MM performs to cause this? Idles. I'm not playing a large video file, or anything crazy like that when this occurs. Each time it has happened, MM has been sitting idle for some time. Something there seems to be in common though, is all three times I've seen this... that screensaver had activated and I was bringing it out of it (with required password).

I'm uncertain whether this should be classified as a bug, or just chalk it up to my system. However like I've said, I've never had this occur with 3.x, and given the circumstances behind it... I think it at least warrants a mention.

Beyond that, when Aero is disabled... MM looks... well, horrible. Doesn't seem to degrade elegantly. I don't know if this only happens because of the switch, or if this is how it appears with Basic (if so, poor souls).

Some stats: Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2), 1.86ghz processor, 2gb memory.

My laptop has a built in Intel video chip, and the driver is up to date according to the laptop manufacturer's website. It appears this only occurs when there is a video paused (or possibly playing) in the player when the screen saver comes on. Though I don't really understand why it would play fine normally, yet if there's a video paused and the saver comes on, this occurs.

fault is the screen saver they can turn the color scheme to 32 or 8 bit if they want too and change the size of the display too
i've had a few do that. maybe the one you use on your's is like that.? 8)

Hi Mizery_made,

You reported 2 issues:

1) changing of color scheme triggered by MM: is this still occuring for you? (I can't replicate)
2) MM looks really bad with aero disabled-I tested with XP Classic mode and it looks fine. Is the issue skin-dependent?

Thanks.

1) I'm still able to reproduce this here, but I think it's actually a by-product of another "bug" only being partially fixed. The one in question is 6411: Video Playback: screensaver interferes with playback (comment added with my findings). My issue is brought on by the screensaver kicking in during playback, and therefor the issue is brought on by circumstances that shouldn't happen(?). Aside from whether the issue should be possible to occur or not, it may be a matter of my computer's specs. If needed, I can provide any information that you would need in that department.

2) The issue isn't when Aero has been disabled by the user (per choice) or not available (Vista Basic, not a powerful enough computer, pre-Vista) and is rather in the reported circumstance. That being, when "the color scheme has been changed." The UI doesn't degrade elegantly in this instance. Like #1, this may be a condition that shouldn't occur anyway. However, there have been reports of MM3 always causing the "color scheme issue" on the forum so there may be other circumstances where it could occur. Don't know if what I see would occur if the change happens upon running, or if it's just a re-draw issue due to the change taking place in the middle of a session.

Indeed. I missed it at first glance.
I see what you mean now.

For issue 2) I can't reproduce. If I change the theme to Windows Basic, then launch MM4, it loads with the old XP style skinning.

As I've stated, this doesn't occur when Aero has been disabled by the user or when it's unavailable due to windows version or what have you. It only occurs when the "color scheme has been changed" issue occurs during a session (such as the reported issue).
