1343: SEARCH field 3 bugs [#7191]

typing in the search field:
Bug 1) Track browser disappears
Bug 2) Search field sometimes loses focus - not possible to type anymore - cursor jumps on results

Bug 3. Drop down menu appears not on my 2nd but on the first screen, where there is no search field (MM is spanned on both screens).

Functionality 4. A little inconvenient that I still need to delete the search after I searched it last day. Would be better that when the user clicks in the search field that they could start typing immediately.

1) I don't think that's a bug, as the search node is a new node. If you go back to the node you were on previously (eg. "Music" node), the track browser comes back
2) How do you reproduce that? Anything specific? I tried it several times but no problem...
3) can't comment on that, I've only got one monitor right now
4) You're saying when you click the search bar it should immediately clear the text? Doesn't sound like a great idea...

1) You still can call the track browser back (button on a toolbar, through main text menu should be possible as well). So even if it should have behaved as you describe, then the behavior is inconsistent. And for me who browses his music through the track browser only - very inconvenient to go back and find where the node browser (Library etc) is. Because with a track browser on - you can immediately, with one click, navigate to any group of songs you want (e.g. genre) . Much faster!

2) Happened to me several times. Was just typing there in the field.

3) As I recall this happens in MM3 too. Though can't say exactly - I organize, use and search mostly the songs through track browser.

4) There is still a history in a drop-down menu.
At least select the text already typed (like an URL in Google Chrome, when clicked in Address Bar) (with only on click, anywhere in the field, after the focus was lost; Or with hot-keys). This is one of the reasons I don't use Search functionality much - because it requires me to 'concentrate' and select the whole phrase in a search field. Much faster would be 1) Click 2) Type 3) Click on a song

1) I agree as the Track Browser actually is functional in the search node it's state should persist: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7191

2) I've seen weird behavior in MM due to auto-complete, but haven't seen this in the Search Bar

4) I think it shouldn't clear when activated as I often refine my search. As it currently highlights the entered text you can just start typing a new query anyway. I think this is the best of both worlds as you don't have any additional step, and I don't have to retype (some queries can be complex) my query.

That's weird. On my setup, if i click away from the search field and then click again on it, the text isn't higlighted. :-?
Would love if it worked like you described but it doesn't seem for me.
Or am I missing something?

4) It seems that 1346 no longer does this.

Ah That explains it. Thank you Lowlander.

Seems like a regression. Should be reported.

I wonder if the graying out of the text in the search box on loss of focus is new. If so that probably introduced this regression.

Yes I can see that it grays out.
But I don't recall if it was like that before.

No, that behavior is the same in MM3.

I've added it to this bug report: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7253
