Super playlist [7853]

I need a playlist containing all tracks in a given playlist sub-tree. Is there a trick to defining such an auto-playlist?

This:

Property: Playlist
Condition: is
Values: [many x]

omits to automatically pick up additions and move-outs.

Thanks.

OK, thanks LL. If anyone knows otherwise, please do say.

And Devs, this criteria dialog box would be much easier to use for such if it were not so tiny.

make an auto playlist in mm gold, tell it to find a code in one of the custom fields you want to use for the code.

go to that sub playlist put that same code in all the songs properties tag for that custom field.
and only those songs in the sub playlists you want that auto playlist to play. mediamonkey will then find only those songs when you click on that playlist.

i also don't like to use the library nodes to play songs with i can set up timers to run the playlists so i make all playlists.
and set the timers so i only have to enjoy the muisc on the computer. 8)

Thanks RC, but how, without selecting every descendent playlist individually?

Not possible.

This is because a parent playlist is a playlist on it's own and not really the parent playlist. Nor are child playlist really child playlists. It's merely a visual aide to manage playlists. Some don't like this and some do like this (there have been a few discussion on the forum on this), but at the end of the day with the current implementation you can't select a parent to select all it's children, not have new playlists auto-selected.

I belong to the group who prefers the current implementation.

I don't follow you on automatically picking up additions and move outs. How does that not work?

I think he's referring to new Playlists and moving Playlists away from the Parent Playlist.

they way i said is not going by playlists.

i'm telling you to pick each and every song in the sub playlists of the one you call the main list and add that code in to
each song's custom field.

then make the auto playlist play music as long as you want, example 30 minutes. now when you start that auto playlist
it only picks the songs with that code in the custom field and only 30 minutes worth of them. so its like playing the main
list only.

i'm not using it as playlist picking playlists to use.

i'm doing it as playlist picking songs with codes in to use.
which is the only way you can do the picking of songs in a tree list of playlists.

we're all telling you the same thing. mediamonkey does not go by playlists, but rather he goes by songs. :)

you have to make the playlists of the songs you want to hear and tell him to use that playlist.
all playlists will show up under the node in the music explorer tree for playlists. make sure you name each playlist so it is easy to find. 8)

Ah, OK thanks, but playlist is part of this requirement.

Indeed.

I'd like MM parent playlists to work as in JRiver Media Jukebox - in the tracklist, show all descendants.

Failing which, each parent should at least have an All sub-node as per the library nodes. I can't see any problem with that.

I have no problem with an All node, but it should definitely not show all child playlist tracks.

Would you like to file this in Mantis? Else I will.
