If you switch to a new tab and search for something, when closed and re-opened the tab that once showed the results will revert to "Music".

Here's a video of the issue: http://www.zshare.net/video/947969218de6402c/
Though zshare's video quality is horrid, so if you can't stand it simply download the original and it will be in regular HD 1080p.

I can't reproduce, the tab with the search result still shows those results no matter how much I switch between tabs and applications.

It's not when switching applications or tabs, it's when MM is closed itself and then re-opened.
Although I may not have been specific enough in the post, the video should have explained that.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's by design. The same happens in the Network nodes.

I don't believe so, if you use the bar with the drop-downs on the left and go to a playlist or genre (anything in that bar really) then close MM and open it again the tabs retain their playlist or genre selection instead of immediately switching to music.

Hence it's highly doubtful the search results not being cached on exit would be by design.

Hah so it was by design.. I had thought that "by design" would mean "was designed to act in that way".
I solemnly admit defeat.
