I've found a repeatable bug. It only occurs once, after you first start Media Monkey but BEFORE you have clicked on the 1st song to play after it has been started. The volume from the previous listening session will be shown (as it should). *However* if you change the volume slider and then click on a song. The volume will revert back to what it was at start-up when it starts to play.

Why this is bad:
If my previous listening session was "loud". I definitely had MMs internal level set to a spot close to opimum for the last song I listened to. However if my new session's 1st song is mastered at a higher, "average level" than my "last session" final song was; I may likely DAMAGE my speakers and/or amp.

What SHOULD happen:
Whenever I click a song (OR press play with a title in the "Now playing" que highlighted). It should ALWAYS begin playing at the level the volume slider is set at; PERIOD. No matter if it has just been started up or not...

I am running a WIn 7 media Center on:

This is feeding into a super quiet (>110db end to end) PreAmp/Class D amp system. The amps are capable of >600 watts Inst peak output into 4 ohms. The speakers are a pair of ML Vista's and Grotto-i subs.

Problem is evident in MM 4.06 AND 4.07 (and probably earlier but not sure). I am using the MM WASAPI output driver set to my ASUS Xonar Essence analog outputs. Resolution is set to 2 Chan 192khz @ 24 bits. I keep my view set to Art Browser with details, a few Custom genre's visable in my left side pane and the Track playing/Album art view in the right side pane. The skin is G-Monkey_PS.

This is a very irritating/dangerous little glitch...

I can't reproduce on 4.0.7 with the MediaMonkey DirectSound output plugin.

If i close MediaMonkey with volume 100%, start MediaMonkey, change volume to 50% and start playback it plays at 50%.

So perhaps the bug is in the WASAPI output module then?

I prefer WASAPI cuz it gives me control over memory buffer sizes. And until MM includes a "Play from Memory" option, this is the closest we can come to that...

I can't confirm as I'm on an older Windows.

I can't reproduce with the WASAPI plugin. Are you in regular or exclusive mode?

Folks, this is a REAL bug. No one seems to acknowledge it?

I see a pattern in "Bug Correction" for this product (I've seen it twice for my reports, many times for other folks as well). i.e.

1. Someone reports a bug.
2. A handful of glib replies state "We don't see anything wrong".
3. Problem gets dismissed.
4. Many things don't get corrected.
4. Your product gradually looses credibility.

HDTracks now offers Apple Lossless downloads. This is one of the final nails in your coffin.

Just to let you know your not going crazy, I do remember getting the bug in mm3 on xp pro sp3.
However it was doing it to every song, and i didnt report it to mediamonkey as i took it to be a sound driver issue, and updated my soundcard drivers which fixed it on my system. It was the same bug as you have i'm sure of it as my slider would jump back to the startup volume postion as soon as i let go of the button when draging the slider. Was very annoying but was the realtech audio drivers back then not mm.


Umm? An after thought,
Keyboard sound drivers might also be in need of updating if you have sound buttons on the keyboard. Ms released new updates for itype last december.
