3rd Gen iPod 160gb unable to auto-sync selected playlist

I have been having a host of problems since upgrading to 4.0.7.1511, please!!! I'm loosing track of how long I've been without music and it's effecting my vision, productivity, physical health and relationships!!!
(yea, It's not that serious but it feels about like it's getting there)

*****************************************************************************************************
>>>>> Observations/Potential Symptoms:

1. Playlist selections for auto-sync don't save - If I select away from my iPod and then re-select it again, it shows that my memory is full (no music on my iPod so I guess this is project what would be on my iPod if I synced it). If I changed the playlist settings so that there is only maybe a couple of gigs worth of songs, select "Apply" to save changes, then click away to something else (perhaps the "Now Playing" option) and click back all of my music summary screen indicates that my iPod memory is full and playlist settings are returned to default (upload everything).

2. If change setting (apply changes) then attempt to auto sync, it indicates that I don't have enough memory to sync my songs - I collect this is because MM is attempting to auto-sync my entire playlist instead of the songs I have requested.

3. I have tried to sync just a couple of song and it always tries to sync the whole thing.

******************************************************************************************************
>>>>> Things that might help to know:

1. Per MM, these are my hardware settings -

Available Physical Memory 4.14 GB
Total Virtual Memory 11.8 GB
Available Virtual Memory 9.35 GB
Page File Space 5.92 GB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

2. My Music is on an INTERNAL D: drive (I don't think this is a factor seeing that MM keeps trying to sync all of my music but just in case)

3. Here are my "auto sync" settings under the options tab:

* [Checked] - Delete files and playlist not included in the Auto-sync list from the device
* [Contained in the Excluded Folders Box]: *.mp4,Smart*.pla
* [Unchecked] - Everything else (e.g. everything else on the Auto-sync screen under the options tab is unchecked)

4. Here are my "Summary" settings under the Summary tab:

* [Unchecked] - Everything (e.g. Scan, Auto-sync once connected and Automatic un-mount is all unchecked)

5. I have more music that the capacity of my iPod (Perhaps stating the obvious here but every little bit helps)

==> I, like many other, will have to travel during the holidays and at present I have no music on my iPod. Standing in airplane lines for hours and being shoveled about like cattle at the airport is three times as painful without music. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Have a wonderful holiday!!

Also, I usually auto sync manually.

Please show a screen shot of the auto-sync list. I can't reproduce any loss of settings when navigating away from it.

Unable to post screen shot images to reply. What is the best way to provide images?

Ok

I'm going demonstrate my problem with links to screen shots indicating what I'm talking about.

Step 1: Format the iPod to the manufactured default

Here we have a screen shot of my iPod right after a reformat. iTunes is setup so it won't try to pop up if I connect my iPod, etc.

Side bar: Is there a way to format using MM?

Image

Next we do the following:

1. Safely Disconnect the iPod
2. Exit iTunes
3. Open MM
4. Wait a seconds
5. Reconnect iPod

Below we have the MM summary screen after the iPod has been connected.

The description in the top right corner indicates that the device is empty but the memory bar below indicates that it's either full or will be full after next sync (not horribly clear but lets move on).

Image

By default the auto-sync tab looks to want to auto-sync all of my music. This isnt what I want.

Image

When we drill down to see what MM is looking at this is exactly what seems to be going on:

Instead I want one folder of music, in this case lets get all of the music in the Gospel folder:

Image

I select the Gospel folder only and select apply but the memory bar below doesn't change. When I hover over the file MM indicates that there is only about 26 gigs of music in this folder, so why is the memory bar at the bottom still indicating it wants to fill up my iPod? To be fair, sometime the indicator at the bottom works correctly but you get my drift.

Image

Now I'm going to highlight the playlist option and select only my music that was rate 5 stars via an autoplaylist I created. According to the memory list it's only 7 gigs of music in this playlist but the memory bar below indicates that there is 26 gigs of music it plans to upload (size of the Gospel folder):

Image

Here's what's selected at the options tab when the auto-sync menu is highlighted:

Image

These are the options that are selected via the device configuration menu under the option tab:

Image

Now this is where it gets really flaky...

If I select away from the iPod device Menu (in this case the Now Playing Menu):

Image

Then back to the Ipod Menu...

The memory settings appear to have change, with the memory bar below indicating that it's about to try to upload my entire music collection again:

Image

When I reselect the auto-sync tab it appears that the file location has been changed back to default. I have been using the apply tab with every change (observed via screenshots)...

This is my hardware information via MM:

Image

I really don't know what could be the issue here...

You're not showing that anything else is selected to be synced on the Auto-Sync list tab after navigating away and back (that would be a bug if as indicated Apply was used after changing sync selection).

Ooop, I thought I posted all of the pics...

Here is the after shot after clicking back from the "Now Playing List". Screen shot taken at the same time as the others.

In that case you may want to capture the connection of the device, the setting of sync-list, the navigating away and back (now with wrong selections) in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=12&t=69

I haven't seen this happen for any of my devices.

If you can give me an idea (e.g screen shots) of exactly what shots you are looking for it might save us some valuable back and forth, regarding "connection of device, settings of sync-list, the navigating away and the back". These fun buzz words don't register. For instance, for clicking away and back all I did was click now playing then click back to my device. I'm pretty sure I can't give you too much more without posting a vid, which I would be more than willing to do if you show me how.

Video won't help as it doesn't show what is happening. Just start DBGView, then start MediaMonkey (the debug version), then connect your device, then reproduce the error. Save the debug log, zip it and send it to support.

Based on your description and posted images, the only problem appears to be that your auto-sync list changes are not saved.

I doubt a debug log would help much to diagnose the problem, you'd be better to upload your MM.DB file and let the MM support team download it so they can see for themselves. Either the DB is corrupted somehow or your computer is not letting you make changes to the file.

I remember that this issue has been fixed in 4.1, so download 4.1.0.1617 http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 50#p356355 and it should allow you to properly de-select the files from the location subnodes
