Win8, MM 4.0.7.1511 and UPnP doesn't want to play

I had MM 4.0.7.1511 running on a Windows 7 box with MM Win8 running on my tablet, and accessing the Windows 7 box from the tablet using UPnP was good.

The box died, so I rebuilt it using Windows 8 rather than Windows 7 with the same version of MM. Now, UPnP does not work no matter what I try, 1 time (out of about 200 attempts) MM showed up in the Media Servers list on the tablet.

The Windows 8 box is running Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 (the same as was on the Windows 7 box) and has all of the MM monkey files (MediaMonkey, mediamonkeyvhelper.exe, mediamonkeycom.exe, decorder.exe and mediamonkey.exe) as trusted with full permissions to the network. I have turned off KIS 2013 and I still cannot see the MM Server on my tablet.

On the Windows 7 box I did not have to do anything with the KIS firewall to make MM Server work. I have tried specifically enabling port 4000 inbound and outbound and IGMP inbound and outbound to any network address without seeing any differences.

I have set the following MM Settings:
Enable media sharing = true
Allow control of MediaMonkey player = true
Share automatically with all new devices = true
Notify me when a new device attempts to connect = true/false (I never get any notifications)

I have turned on network sharing and set the media server settings (via Home Group and in Settings) to allow anyone on the network to access the media server.

MM on the Windows 8 box shows MM Server in the Media Servers node. I can get to the web page from either the W8 box or the W8 tablet by browsing to http://<address>:4000/DeviceDescription.xml.

On the tablet I can see the WMP server and the local tablet, but not the MediaMonkey Server on the Win8 box.

The only thing I can see that might be a problem is on the "Devices" tab of the "Settings" page it shows "MediaMonkey Renderer" as "Not Windows Certified" but does show "MediaMonkey Server" without the "Not Windows Certified".

Anyone have any clues as to what the problem might be?

Thanks,

Eric

What type of router do you have? Sometimes certain router settings can cause discovery problems on Upnp.

It is a Linksys, but nothing has changed on it since I upgraded the main computer.

Doesn't matter. Just using a different computer can be an issue with certain router settings.

Check your router settings for "IGMP proxy" and disable it.

My router does not have "IGMP Proxy" as an option.

It might not be referred to as IGMP proxy, look for "Multicast" or "Multicast filter" as well, and disable.

Nope, I also allowed all IGMP In/Out in my personal firewall and that did not do it either.

Here is what I have tried in the last hour.

On the Win8 box:
Turned FW/AV off , added new port in media sharing in MM and turned on the "Accept external IP addresses", turned on "Share automatically with all new devices" and "Notify me when new device attempts to connect".

On the Win8 Tablet:
Removed the 2 device entries for "Media Monkey Renderer (Not Responding)" and "Media Monkey Server (Disconnected)

Still no go on MM8 on the tablet finding the Win8 "Server" box. No notifications that there was a connection attempt.

I did a "Add Device" on the Win8 Tablet and it did not find the MM UPnP server.

Went to the "desktop" on the tablet and in "file explorer" I see 2 entries for MM Server & 1 entry for MM Renderer, but MM8 (the brand new one that was updated today) still does not see the MM8 UPnP server.

Wait, wait. MM8 doesn't serve files. You need MMW.

Sorry, that was a typo. I do have MM 4.0.7.1511 on the Win8 "UPnP Server" box.

Only other thing I can think to try is the 4.1 beta version of MMW, maybe the older version doesn't work for whatever reason.

The 4.1 beta did not work. It has to have something to do with MM4 running on Win8 because when the MM 4.x server was running on Win7 the Win8 tablet could see the MM4 server. I don't remember if the Win8 tablet could see WMP as a UPnP server or not, but it does now, so I don't think it has anything to do with "discovery". I guess I'll open a support ticket with the issue.

Thanks,

Eric

I doubt that. I am running MM 4.1 on Windows 8 and I don't have any issues streaming over upnp to my iPhone, iPad, laptop, or TV.
