This is related to the issues people are having with MMA, but I'm wondering if I could help by tweaking something in MMW. Basically, if I select a large playlist to sync from MMW to MMA via a wifi sync, I have found that if the list generation process in MMW takes too long, MMA tends to time out and display a "sync failed" dialog. For reference, I used DebugView to watch what MMW was doing. From my limited testing, it appears that MMA consistently times out after ~20 seconds in my setup if MMW hasn't responded. If I start with a static playlist (or auto, it doesn't matter) that has over 400 tracks, it will take longer than 20 seconds to generate the list and respond to MMA. I can consistently (no failures at all) sync if MMW only has a 400 track list, but I consistently fail if the list is large (600-1200 in my tests).

So, perhaps there is something that I can do with MMW to improve my list generation time. It was suggested that I could put MMW on the file server, but if the list is being generated from the database then MMW should be on the fastest machine which is where MMW is at the moment. Most of my tracks are FLAC. While I'm not going to change that, would other formats be quicker? Is there something that can be done on the MMW developer side to keep MMA aware that MMW is still working? Other thoughts?

Run File > Maintain Library with complete optimization to speed up MMW.

Same config as in OP, I ran file->Maintain Library->Optimize (complete). Before running that command, a sync sent from the device would fail at ~21 seconds in DebugView and MMW would finish at 32 seconds. After running the optimization, a sync from the device still fails at ~21 seconds but MMW now finishes in 29 seconds. I restarted MMW and the sync took 30 seconds. I'd say that the optimization sped things up by 2-3 seconds, but that's not enough to get me under the ~20 second MMA time out.

Is there anything else worth trying on my end with MMW, or is this going to have to be a developer fix in MMA (and/or MMW) to get it fully working? I haven't seen any other comments about wifi sync issues on the MMA forum, so I figure it might just be me at this point.

I've reported it a while back that sync would fail on multiple playlists (MMW would still be preparing while MMA timed out).

Is there any way to update the info on that bug report to point out that a large enough single static playlist can also cause a sync fail if it takes long enough to build the list? Do you have a link to that bug report so I can watch it?

I believe I mentioned it on the forum, not sure though where I mentioned it.

Nevertheless it fails for me only when thousands of tracks are selected, it is strange that it fails for you even with 400 files only, could yuo attach debug log?

Absolutely! I'll try to get to it tonight.

I uploaded a MMA log of the failure and have a MMW 1638 log of the same process. I was about to submit the MMW log when I saw you post this as resolved. I'll wait until 1639 to see if this is resolved. Thanks for the quick fix (assuming it works ).

I see MMW 1640 is now available. I'll check the wifi sync this weekend (hopefully tonight) and upload a debug log if it fails. I assume I just create a new report in the mantis system?

FYI I have tested it on 1640 and it fixed the issue.

That did fix the problem. I have a new issue where MMA doesn't think it needs to download anything, but I will post in a new MMA topic and upload a log . Thanks!
