Scripting challenge (or maybe just advice)

Postby artworksmetal » Fri Dec 30, 2005 2:32 pm

I'm getting ready to rip my 150 CD collection to MMGold on my new dedicated music PC.
What I want to do is have MM Rip my cd that I put in as an MP3 to
D:\MP3\ Artist\album\song. I guess I want to use Virtual CD.
I also want it to prompt me to ask if I want to rip it also to .wav file (for my good classical stuff), into d:\Artist\album\song
I really don't have the time or energy to learn the scripting my self. But I'm willing to pay cash money, send a piece of my soul, or a good Spanish Rioja Vino Tinto.
MM Gold since 2005

The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself.

Hello

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I don't thing this can be made through scripting or something similar.

In any case, you would need an (extra) external encoder to make the wav's,
... or you could offer your cash money, a piece of your soul and a good Spanish Rioja Vino Tinto to the MM developers and hope that they would be able to take some time "off" to program this.

OR, maybe MediaMonkey stores the ripped wav files somewhere before it converts them to the mp3 format (if MM doesn't encode on-the-fly). If you could capture these temporary wav's, you would be saved.

Cheers

Thanks Steegy. I won't cry. It just seemed like a good idea at the time!

Hmmmm..... Nice Spanish Rose Wine Hmmmm... Interesting proposal 8)

I'm not so sure that I understand you correctly. You want to have all CDs in MP3 and some Classical ones in WAVE?
So basicaly you wanna say that you wanna Make Duplicates on purpose or ?

Anyway I'm gone for few days this weekend and new years eve, so see you in couple of days.
Best regards,

I was thinking more Tempranillo than Rose'.

Yes, I want all the cds to MP3 for portable usage. But the classical stuff in any lossless format, for playing through the stereo.

Pleasant holiday.

(for my good classical stuff)

If you mean whole cd's by that, you could rip these separate from the others in .wav format, and then later convert them to .mp3.

But if you mean some good songs per cd (not the whole cd), it will be difficult, because you can't choose encoding format on track base. (that's what I understood from your first post).

EDIT: Oops you can choose on-the-fly encoding or not in MM's CD ripping options.
(Does anyone know if MM encodes on-the-fly, or if it first stores the ripped tracks on the hard disk or memory (probably wav format) and then encodes them?)

Cheers

Yes unfortunately these actions cannot be triggered by a script. My suggestion (which would take less effort on your part but more time on the computers part) would be to rip everything as WAV. Then when you've sorted your tags you can use something (probably genre) to ignore all your classical songs, and convert the rest into MP3.

Or in fact if you only want the MP3s for your portable player, you could keep your whole collection in lossless WAV and use the auto-convert-sync feature (I'm sure they called it something snappier than that) to convert them to MP3 whilst synching to your portable player.

word of warning?

WAV format = 10 mb's of space for 1 minute of sound.

it is far better to not keep them in wav format but convert them to
another format for keeping them.

like ogg, or the lossless format of flac

but monkey will rip faster if you rip to wav and then convert to
the different fomats. 8)
